We were lucky to catch up with Nicholas Thompson Thompson recently and have shared our conversation below.
Nicholas Thompson, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What sort of legacy are you hoping to build. What do you think people will say about you after you are gone, what do you hope to be remembered for?
I hope that when people see my work, that they can truly see the art and vision is shown through my eyes and not just a vision impaired artist with limitations. I want people to be able to pick my work out of a magazine and say “that’s an Impairedlens shot”.
To have traveled across the country and as well as outside of the country to work with all types of talented people. To also have multiple magazine publications and to have had more of my work showcased in art galleries.
My biggest reward would be knowing that i was able to bring happiness to my clients by creating magical, long lasing memories.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I was born in small town in Louisiana called Rayville close o Monroe and raised in Huntsville, Alabama. I am portrait photographer of four years of experience. My niche is in fashion, but i also love taking portraits of couples and families, as well as other artistic themes. I got my start in photography, when my wife, who was my bestfriend at the time asked me to take some artistic portraits of her. She ended up liking the results of or shoot and pushed me to turn what was going to be a hobby into a business. My love for definiely grew over the years, because as a child, video games mostly intrigued me as a creative.
The kind of problems i help solve for my clients is how/what can we do to help make their vision a reality, help them look their best in their images. Also try to make them as comfortable as possible and be as accomodating and as understanding as i possibly can.
I am most proud of accomplishing things that i thought would have came later in my career such as being multi published in several and having a portrait in an art gallery..
What sets my work apart from other photographers is that my vision unique being that I am vision impaired, so my art is one of a kind. And all my future clients and supporters should know that i take my craft very seriously with the upmost professionalism and wth ImpairedLens i always aim to satisfy my clients and go beyond my means to make them happy.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
During the early years of my career, i worked with a small time agency. Which i wasn’t getting paid for my work at first, but would get the opporunity to get my name out. I was somewhat praised for my work but only at a minimum; the owner of the company asked me to be an ambassador for the agency. This person ade everything sound good and said everything to make me feel good about myself and my work. Long story short, this man manipulated me, had me withhold the truth from his models and some partners; as well as underpaying me for my work. Some things are just too good to be true, but with all that being said, working for that agency helped me to hone my skills more and help create some lasting relationships.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Amazing word of mouth from a good friend of mind, who also gave me some good sound business advice. Another thing that helped me build my rep, was the person i spoke of earlier with the agency, bragged greatly to the models that they were managing and in turn made them more comfortable to work with me I can honestly say that word of mouth has been greatest source of my reputation and earning the respect of other creatives in my area.
