We were lucky to catch up with Nicholas Soto recently and have shared our conversation below.
Nicholas, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
A few years ago, I found myself at a crossroads, juggling two parts of my life that felt incomplete. On one hand, I had a steady job working for an influencer-based automobile marketing company. It was an incredible opportunity, full of perks, connections, and excitement. From the outside, it seemed like a dream job. But deep down, something was missing. My passion—music—was always calling. I thought I might be able to silence it by switching to another promising career, so I left the automobile company for a tech job. Yet again, I found myself unfulfilled. I realized that no matter where I went, my heart wouldn’t let me ignore my dreams: music and flying.
The decision to leave a stable career to pursue not just one, but two lifelong dreams—becoming a full-time DJ and a pilot—felt monumental. It was a risk that could easily backfire. The world of music is competitive, unpredictable, and requires relentless dedication, and flight school would demand time, discipline, and a significant financial commitment. Could I handle both? Could I walk away from the security of a 9-to-5 job and build a life that aligned with my passions?
I didn’t have all the answers when I made the leap, but what I did have was belief in myself and an unwavering determination to find happiness in what I do. I threw myself into DJing, working with different companies, building my brand, and immersing myself in the music industry. At the same time, I enrolled in flight school, committing to my long-time dream of becoming a pilot.
It wasn’t easy. Balancing two demanding pursuits often felt like juggling fire, and there were moments of doubt. But slowly, things began to fall into place. As a DJ, I began hosting multiple radio shows, performing at live events, and connecting with audiences in ways I’d always dreamed of. My love for electronic and house music became the foundation of a career that is now flourishing. Simultaneously, I’ve been excelling in flight school, clocking over 100 flight hours and moving closer to earning my Private Pilot License.
Looking back, that leap of faith was the best risk I’ve ever taken. It’s been challenging, no doubt, but it’s also been incredibly rewarding. I’m happier, more fulfilled, and more connected to my passions than ever before. Taking the risk to bet on myself, to pursue music and aviation, has not only transformed my career but also my life. And the best part? I’m just getting started.
Nicholas, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
In my view, one of the most important things society can do to support artists and foster a thriving creative ecosystem is to embrace the power of community and active participation. It’s not just about attending shows or purchasing art—it’s about showing consistent, genuine support for creativity in all its forms, especially at the grassroots level.
A great starting point is supporting the artists in your life, whether they’re friends, family, or local creators. Simple actions like sharing their work, commenting on their posts, liking their content, and recommending them to others can make a huge difference. In today’s digital world, visibility is everything, and even small gestures like engaging with an artist’s social media can amplify their reach and open doors to new opportunities.
Beyond personal support, society can encourage creativity by investing in accessible resources and platforms for artists. This could mean more grants, funding, and programs that nurture emerging talent, as well as community spaces like galleries, studios, or venues that provide artists with opportunities to showcase their work. Education is also key—integrating arts and music into school curriculums not only inspires future generations of creators but also teaches everyone to value and appreciate the arts.
Another crucial aspect is fostering a culture that respects and values the time, energy, and dedication artists put into their craft. Too often, people expect creatives to work for free or undervalue their contributions. By understanding the value of art and being willing to pay for it, society can help ensure artists are compensated fairly for their work, allowing them to continue creating without constant financial stress.
Finally, I believe collaboration and connection are vital. Building networks where artists can share ideas, mentor one another, and collaborate on projects strengthens the creative community as a whole. Whether through local collectives, online platforms, or global partnerships, a thriving creative ecosystem thrives when artists uplift one another.
Ultimately, a supportive society recognizes that art is not just entertainment; it’s a vital part of culture, a source of inspiration, and a way to bring people together. By engaging, investing, and celebrating creativity, we can ensure that artists continue to innovate, inspire, and thrive for generations to come.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
One of the most defining moments of my journey came when I decided to leave the stability of a traditional career and pursue DJing full-time. It was a risk that tested my resilience in ways I couldn’t have imagined.
After working in an influencer-based automobile marketing company, I transitioned to a tech job that seemed promising on the surface but left me feeling unfulfilled. Music was always my passion, but the idea of leaving a secure paycheck to chase something uncertain was daunting. Eventually, I made the leap, committing myself fully to building a career as a DJ and carving out my space in the world of electronic dance music.
In the beginning, it wasn’t easy. I faced financial uncertainty, long nights, and a lot of self-doubt. There were times when gigs didn’t go as planned—like one event where I was asked to cut my set short because the crowd wasn’t connecting with my style. That night stung, but instead of letting it discourage me, I used it as fuel to refine my craft, learn from the experience, and grow stronger.
One of the most challenging parts of this journey was balancing my DJ career with my other long-time dream of becoming a pilot. Juggling flight school and the demands of being a full-time DJ required intense focus, discipline, and sacrifice. There were days I questioned if I had taken on too much. But I kept reminding myself why I started: my love for music, my passion for flying, and my desire to prove to myself that I could succeed in both.
What kept me resilient was my belief in the process and the support of those who believed in me. Every small victory—whether it was landing a new residency, creating a mix that resonated with listeners, or nailing a flight maneuver—reinforced that I was on the right path.
Now, looking back, I see how those struggles shaped me. They taught me that resilience isn’t just about pushing through challenges—it’s about adapting, learning, and staying true to your vision even when the road gets tough. Today, I’m proud to say I’ve built a career that aligns with my passions and goals. Those moments of adversity made the success even more meaningful, and they remind me every day why resilience is key to achieving your dreams.
