We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Nicholas Esquivel . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Nicholas below.
Nicholas , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
After I got my first camera, my sister told me that our city’s community center was offering an “Intro to Photography” class. This helped me with learning how to use a digital camera, from learning all the settings and when to use them to learning how to compose a shot as well as contrast, lighting and editing. A skill that I feel is most essential would be editing, I feel that it can make or break a photo. An obstacle that stood in the way of learning more would have to be creators block. Running into one of those sucks because I wouldn’t be able to come up with any new ideas.
Nicholas , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
For those that may not know about me, I’m a visual artist from the inland empire. Photography is something I have a huge passion for and it’s on my mind constantly. Over the past couple years, I’ve been learning more about different mediums of art such as painting, drawing, graphic design and videography. When I was younger, my mom would give me disposable cameras to take on school field trips and I would use the roll of film to take photos of anything I found to be interesting. As I grew older, I found out about Instagram and would take photos with my iPhone and post them on there. Something that I am proud of is all the connections and friendships I’ve made with my camera, it’s always nice meeting new faces. I want anyone that reads this to know that I want to make a name for myself and my work in the art industry.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My main goal would to be able to make my art as a form of income/ a full time job. At the moment, I would love to go on tour with a music artist and take photos/videos for them. I want people to recognize my art whenever they see it.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
For me personally, I just love the process of it all. From thinking of an idea, composing and taking an image to editing and seeing the end result, it just makes me happy. The process of creating art is a learning process that continues for your entire career and life. Witnessing your own growth as an artist is one of the most rewarding parts of being an artist.
