We recently connected with Nichelle Stokes and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Nichelle, thanks for joining us today. How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
Honestly it was just a natural gift that I had from being a young girl. I was always into fashion I loved getting dress and I also observe the way people dressed and found it very interesting. What I could’ve done to speed up the process was just going for it not being intimidated by a college degree and just making a move to do what I love and make it a career. You definitely have to be a people person to do this job is more than just putting clothes on a body. You really have to understand why people dress the way they do is more deeper than you think. I really haven’t had a lot of obstacles I feel like between the internet and networking the kind of world we live in everything is at the touch of your hand so there’s really no excuse for you to be able to improve your skills.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Nichelle Stokes I’m a wardrobe stylist in Cincinnati Ohio. Since I was a little girl I was always involved in fashion activities like being in fashion shows, hair shows, or just being that friend that everyone ask for fashion advice. I never really thought about taking this seriously as a career because you know as were taught go to college after high school to get a “Real Job”. With a lot of encouragement from people around me I decided to step out on faith and actually do it as a career and it has been satisfying. A lot of problems for women is not the actual shopping but actually knowing ourselves enough to dress ourselves. And that process can be intimidating and exhausting. But I promise you when you get to know you and understand yourself it makes shopping and dressing yourself so easy. When my clients actually get it and use the tools I teach them to create a cohesive wardrobe that they can understand it’s a proud moment for me. What sets me apart from other stylist is that I’m just a ordinary girl with the same problems that my clients have so I’m able to empathize with your struggle. We as women all have dealt with not liking what we see in the mirror. My brand is called Bombchell (Beauty Of Many Background) . Being a BombChell is more than a physical perfection but is a mindset that is explosive and memorable, and when you put on clothes that you love that’s how you should feel every time.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Most people work at 9 to 5 job where they don’t feel like they’re being fullfill, and getting pay wages that they have to work over 40 hours a week just to make it. I feel like if I’m going to work for most of my life I might as well do something that I love and don’t mind doing it and actually getting paid for it. This is my ministry my clients trust me enough to dive into their intimate insecurities and allow me to help make them a little bit better.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
The most effective strategy for me with building my clientele is definitely word of mouth. Most of my clients in the beginning were people that I already knew, and I had a good report with them already. People in my circle had great connections, so with that came great referrals. Two important things are great customer service, and professionalism that will keep a revolving door for new clients.
