Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Nicaise Jones. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Nicaise thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
The most meaningful project I’ve worked on is when I created my children’s book “My Two Homes”. When I first got married, I instantly became an instant stepmom to a 3 yr old. One of our nightly routines was reading a book every night, but I soon realized there were not many books that looked like him and his story. Representation matters, and blended families are becoming more of a thing. It bothered me after searching for a book he could relate to. Since I could not find anything, I took months and created a story of a black child that has to travel between mom and dad’s house and the positive side of it. The things that a child can take from it. After creating this book, many families have reached out to me to let me know how impactful this book has been for their children. That has been the most meaningful work thus far.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
Who am I? I always feel like that is such a loaded question. Ha! Honestly, I’m a Christian woman first and foremost, I don’t do anything that I don’t feel like the Lord isn’t asking me to do. I’m a wife, mother, stepmother, and person who wants to bring joy and peace into people’s lives. Make sure that people never feel like they’re alone. I do that by way of my youtube channel Simply Nicaise. I talk about everyday life that may affect me and how it could possibly encourage others. I also have a podcast called blissful bonus moms and that is just about navigating through being a stepmother. I get into things when I feel like there’s a lack thereof, my children’s book “My Two Homes” came about because it was missing and I wanted to fill the gap. My Podcast came about because there weren’t many Christian outtakes or a real positive view on being a step-parent. My youtube came about because at the end of the day, people want to connect with someone they can possibly relate to. I don’t know if there is one project over the other that I am most proud of because they all have their respective places. I want people to know that I do pour my heart into the things I do and its always out of love and how it can help others in similar situations.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
Some popular person told me once that I had to follow their aesthetics, I had to post 300x a day, make everything look a certain way, and become a robot (not literally). I said to myself, if I had to do that to become a successful content creator, I can’t do. I had to unlearn that and learn that I can only be myself and give my best effort. Burnout is real, and if you don’t focus on the things that make you happy it will be hell. People want authenticity and can spot a fake from a mile away. Always be you. I had to learn that for myself. Don’t develop imposter syndrome is what I am saying.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
Legacy. I want to leave behind a legacy. Legacy is defined as a long-lasting impact. I want that in the lives of others that my work may come across, from my children’s book to my podcast to my youtube, I want something that I’ve put out in the world to have a lasting impact on someone’s life. Thats what drives my creative journey. And Jesus lol.
