We were lucky to catch up with Nia Rose recently and have shared our conversation below.
Nia, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today I’m sure there have been days where the challenges of being an artist or creative force you to think about what it would be like to just have a regular job. When’s the last time you felt that way? Did you have any insights from the experience?
I have this question all the time and I’m actually and actively seeking a salary/ ‘regular’ job because of it. But contrary to some ideals I don’t think that’s a negative thing. Being an entrepreneur and a self-employed artist is often glorified on social media. But what people often forget is that every path you choose has its challenges. With the artist lifestyle comes glamour, creative expression, flexibility but also inconsistent income, a need for extreme self-discipline, self regulated schedule, and lots of rejection.
I’ve never stayed long at any job and I feel like I was naturally born to be a creative but I often yearn for the stability and certainty that a steady paying job brings. Now I’m realizing I have the power and access to both worlds. I’ve encountered so many creatives that work full time jobs AND freelance. Sure there’s outliers that expand beyond needing that day job income but there’s beauty in the balance. There’s beauty in the routine while having the time to create towards your passions.
Nia, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am a creative director, producer, content creator, muse & more. I love to bring people together to build something beautiful and uplifting . I’ve become well connected in the creative community. As a result, I help source talent to produce creative shoots, interview series, and more. Additionally I love to be in front of the camera as well. I offer modeling services for clothing brands, boutiques, commercial campaigns, music videos. My greatest passion is people. I have a knack for helping guests feel comfortable, expressive, and vulnerable. With these gifts I’ve hosted musical festivals, start up-apps, and artist interviews. I want future clients and supporters to know that beyond my skillsets and charisma I have a genuine compassion for others and vibrant energy that captivates anyone. I believe this light of mine is a God sent gift meant to inspire, heal, and uplift!
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
I’ve had a subconscious belief that my ideas and everything I have to offer is not enough. This mindset yields lots of self-doubt, self-loathing, and deprecation. In other words making myself smaller and not following through on my dreams. So now i’m practicing trusting myself, releasing the need for external validation, and trusting my decision making even if I get it wrong because that’s a beautiful part of the process!
I believe this grossly inaccurate belief system was sourced from several places. Inconsistent and unreliable family members, abusive relationships, and lack of genuine friendships caused me to believe I just wasn’t worthy of love and therefore not good enough to trust myself. I’m so thankful to breaking down this belief today.
Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
Happy Pocket Full of Money by David Gikandi, The Power of the Subconscious Mind by Joseph Murphy were some books that changed my mindset around wealth, abundance, and my infinite inner power. Marie Forleo aka Marie TV is a great youtube channel for entrepreneur’s. The biggest note would be we have the power to create our life but first we must take full responsibility!
