Alright, Nia thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you share a story about the kindest thing someone has done for you and why it mattered so much or was so meaningful to you?
The kindest thing anyone has ever done for me was when my boyfriend gifted me a full DJ set and even booked my first DJ gig! 2024 was quite the year for me. I was working a job I hated while attending a church that was taking up the majority of my free time. It got to a point where I was so unhappy in life and what I was doing. I lost my creative spark for a while. In May, I decided to leave the church I was attending; then August came around, and I lost my job. My unhappy reality was suddenly shifting. With so much free time, I could start exploring hobbies again. Music has always been my outlet for expressing and exploring my many personalities. I’m constantly in search of new vibes and drawing inspiration from a wide range of genres.
Last year, I shared with my bf how much I envisioned myself becoming a DJ. Around September, I created Blendsation on YouTube. I had been crafting on my phone, piecing together sounds that resonated with me while saving up for proper equipment. Then, when Christmas arrived, he surprised me with a complete DJ set and told me my first gig was March 1st so I better be ready! I thought I was dreaming! This man goes above and beyond to show me he believes in me and I never had anyone do something so special for me. At that moment, I realized how blessed I truly am to find someone like him in today’s generation. That gift wasn’t just about the gear; it was a heartfelt acknowledgment of my creative journey. It validated my dreams and empowered me to elevate my mixes, sharing my unique musical narrative with the world.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Nia Griffin, and I was born in Oakpark, IL. I’m an upcoming DJ and music storyteller whose journey began with a deep love for sound and its power to express the many facets of who I am. From a young age, music has been my constant companion. I was never someone who listened to a lot of mainstream music as it would get too played out for me, and I would have the urge to hear something new that not many people were bumping. I was deep into the Soundcloud world for some years if that gives you more of an idea of what kind of music listener I am. I’d rather go through a bunch of trash songs to find some of the most gem music than listen to mainstream music that, for the most part, gets played too much for me before I’m bored again. Not to say I don’t listen to any mainstream music, but I prefer to discover artists that are still up and coming. I also would binge-watch DJ sets on YouTube for hours and often found myself daydreaming of doing the same thing one day. Well, I stopped daydreaming and decided to craft my first mix in September 2024 and post it on my YouTube channel, Blendsation. My first mix was called “Boss Up”, basically a reminder to myself that I’m that girl and I need to act like it.. boss up and take action! If you’re not happy, then do something about it.
My creative work centers on curating and mixing diverse genres to create unique soundscapes that tell a story. I see myself not just as someone who plays tracks but as a curator of vibes- one who brings unexpected transitions, fresh energy, and a personal touch to every set. This approach helps me break the monotony that sometimes plagues the music scene, offering listeners an immersive experience that reflects both innovation and authenticity. What sets me apart is my unwavering commitment to genuine self-expression and the ability to merge a wide range of influences into a seamless narrative. I’m most proud of my evolution- from crafting mixes on my phone to performing my first live DJ gig recently! My journey is a testament to the power of belief, persistence, and endless support from my partner.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist is the freedom to express who I truly am. Creativity is a dialogue between my inner world and the audience, Every mix I create is a personal narrative-a blend of emotions, experiences, and unique vibes that invites listeners into my story. It’s incredibly fulfilling when someone connects with a piece of my work, when they see a reflection of their feelings or discover a new perspective through my sound. That connection and shared moment of understanding makes all the challenges worthwhile. It’s this transformative power of art to impact lives and build a community of like-minded souls that I find most rewarding.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
Absolutely. This might sound cliche, but one of the first goals I ever set for myself was to buy my mom a house. We moved around a lot when I was a child, and my mom has never settled in an actual home yet. I plan to make this goal a reality. This has been my fuel to become successful in life, being able to take care of my family and show them new experiences. My creative path has never been linear. I never had one specific career path that I knew I wanted to follow. I’ve tried many different hobbies, trying to find my lane. Many things I’ve tried didn’t stick. However, music came very naturally to me. Early on, I noticed my ability to decipher every sound in a song, and I would always pay close attention to the message in the music. People also would often tell me they enjoyed my song choices every time I hopped on the aux, so everything just aligned for me in due time.
