We recently connected with Nia Celeste and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Nia thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Are you happier as a creative? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job? Can you talk to us about how you think through these emotions?
I always knew I wanted to be a creative since I was a toddler. However, my dreams would bounce from one thing to another, whether it be a dancer, actress, painter, singer, etc. I was never the type of person to actually have concrete plans so as I grew, I ventured into different areas. Eventually, Acting is stuck with me the most. The pride that I would feel and performing was unlike anything I’d ever felt, so I knew that I wanted to continue of going beyond what my younger self had dreamed for. I’ve never been one for mundane jobs. I always find that they hold me back whether it be in creativity focus or productivity. I never got the same passion in any mundane job that I’ve worked at, than when I have an acting. So, suffice to say, being a creative is my dream job!
Nia, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Nia Celeste, and I am a professional voice actor in the DFW area! My career consists of ADR and providing my voice in different shows based in Japan.
You can hear my voice in many shows on Crunchyroll, such as Vampire Dormitory, Reincarnated as a Seventh Prince, Frieren, and Solo Leveling.
When it comes to things that I am most proud of, I can never stop thinking about the fact that it feels like my life has already come full circle. Anime used to be something that I heavily watched and consumed as a child, so now being able to be one of the many voices behind-the-scenes in shows is a humbling experience.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Being able to inspire others. I recently got an email from someone who told me that they were a fan of my work, and that they really really loved what I’ve been doing so far. In that moment, I think I almost cried because I never thought that I would be able to have that impact on others the way that other voice actors have an impact on me!
If I’m able to show others, just a fraction of the love that I have for my job, and possibly inspire others to follow in the same footsteps. I wouldn’t be able to describe the amount of happiness that would give me!
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Before I was a professional voice actor, I was a casual cosplayer, and being in dance groups within the cosplay community was how I spent a majority of my time entertaining myself. We practiced almost every other week and always pushed ourselves to make sure that we were putting our best foot forward.
However, the more that I started working in
voiceover, the more I knew that I wouldn’t be able to even divide my time between the two things that I love the most. As the months went, by I found myself hard at work on the days that I would be practicing a new dance. Having to take constant breaks from my dance group, felt like one of the hardest decisions in my life, but I don’t regret the decisions that I’ve made knowing that I can still support them!
