We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Nia Bailey a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Nia, appreciate you joining us today. What sort of legacy are you hoping to build. What do you think people will say about you after you are gone, what do you hope to be remembered for?
That I truly cared, and tried.
That I created a community where everyone felt safe and secure, where everyone was treated with respect and dignity, regardless of their race, religion, gender, or socioeconomic status. I created a community where everyone had equal opportunities to succeed and thrive.
I worked towards improving the quality of education in our community, ensuring that every child had access to quality education that equipped them with the necessary skills and knowledge to succeed in life.
I worked towards improving the healthcare system in our community, ensuring that everyone had access to quality healthcare services, regardless of their financial status.
I worked towards eradicating poverty in our community, ensuring that everyone had access to basic necessities such as food, clothing, and shelter.
I worked towards promoting social justice in our community, ensuring that everyone was treated fairly and equitably.
I worked towards promoting spiritual growth in our community.
In essence, I helped to create a community that was inclusive, equitable, and sustainable, where everyone had the opportunity to live a fulfilling and meaningful life. By doing so, those who knew me, would know Jesus Christ— maybe the West Philly version (LOL)— but knew Him nonetheless.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’m Nia Imani Bailey. Child of Narda J. Fields and Curry J. Bailey III. I have a doctorate in Public Administration. I’m also a Radiation Therapist, author of 2 children’s books. I am the President of Byrd Cancer Education and Advocacy Foundation. CEO of Smiley 91 LLC. President of Agape — Finding Your Purpose, Incorporating Your Faith. I have written and directed two cancer documentaries. I’m a daughter, sister, niece, Titi, cousin, and friend.
My goal in life is to help everyone. I really mean that. I want everyone to live a healthy, loving, safe, prosperous, equitable life— in this life and beyond.

Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
The Bible. Any question, problem, concern, answer is ALL in the book of life.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I thought I had to fight every battle. I had to unlearn that. Not every battle is mine. Like Yolanda Adams said “It’s the Lords.”
