We were lucky to catch up with Ngozi Okachi recently and have shared our conversation below.
Ngozi, appreciate you joining us today. Risk taking is something we’re really interested in and we’d love to hear the story of a risk you’ve taken.
I had just separated from my partner of 3 years and was experiencing a hardship that was manifesting it self in my body in ways I hadn’t felt since childhood when I lived in a women’s shelter. I had been to the emergency room a few times already that year and knew I had to make a change, my life literally depended on it.
So I took a huge risk and bet fully on myself. I packed my bags, donated almost all of my belongings and left everything behind to take journey with my best friend to relocate to wherever our hearts wanted to go. No plan, just our bags, our dogs and a car which we later sold. Never to look back. I didn’t even get to say goodbye to my family. The day I was leaving, they all had covid and there was no way I was risking getting sick.
My friends in town all met me at the local food coop where we shared in our journeys, where we were headed and experienced loving moments of true community.
On this new journey I wrote my very first book, met incredible people along the way and discovered a happiness inside myself that I had never seen before. Leaving everything behind was the best decision I had ever made and even though there were many moments I cried, yelled and felt deep frustration for the ongoing release of past traumas while witnessing the genocide overseas, that one risk allowed me to show up and fight for equity like I had never been able to do before.
For the first time in my life, I knew what I wanted, what I believed and I was letting nothing get in my way. I’d do it all over again if faced with the choice again.

Ngozi, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I have many titles and roles I fill in my business Flourish Ase. I am a full time empowerment coach, activist and generational healer who helps femmes of color rediscover self love and live an aligned life of true liberation and freedom. My online journeys are there to be a safe space for folx to come release generations of trauma, grief and pain that dwell within their mind, body and spirit.
Alongside this I also have a podcast called “IMMA TALK ABOUT IT,” sell conjure products in person and online and have more recently written a book called “The Empowered Femme Initiation.” Soon I will be traveling to continue talks on generational healing and leading inner child healing quests.
My methods of healing are a blend of ancestral gifts, energy work, activism and advocacy. As a medium, seer and coach I connect my clients back to their lineage and their spiritual gifts that have been stripped away by colonialism but are rightfully theirs.
If you were to talk to my clients, they would say I’m really good at helping them cry and feel balanced again ha. Many of them coming in with painful cycles, severe anxiety, deep anger and confusion on where to go next. They leave with the clarity of their desires, pain free cycles and roundedness as we also work on your physical health and connection to mother earth.
I also on my free time will do free collective tarot readings on YouTube as time allows to deliver messages from the ancestors.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
The biggest lesson I had to unlearn was the belief that “it’s hard for small business to survive.” While the statement is absolutely valid given the way our consumer society runs and the lack of access to resources to support small businesses, it was the most harmful belief to carry around in my energy.
That one belief fueled the thoughts in me that no matter how hard I worked I would never be good enough because I’m going against the odds, that my chance of failure was greater than my chance of succeeding, that I would spend years struggling instead of enjoying every moment of my business with my clients. This one belief pushed me into the generationally racist trap of black women never being able to rest until I landed myself multiple times in the hospital.
The moment I let go of that one belief, I really allowed myself to return to my body and saw my business do better. I was happier, more rested and my clients were at ease just as I was. My content was better and more impactful because I wasn’t forcing myself to “catch the algorithm.” I was simply being me, which was always the golden ticket to success but no one ever talks about that.
It was the hardest lesson to unlearn as it played on repeat throughout the day and was reinforced by my parents but the most rewarding to let go of.

Okay – so how did you figure out the manufacturing part? Did you have prior experience?
I manufacture all my conjure products at home. I worked in global manufacturing for years for big footwear brands as a product developer so I use those skills to help me get my product to market. I had never manufactured mystic products but it was the most fun I’ve had in a long time and I already had the knowledge of overhead, mitigating risk and sustainability.
Since my products are for conjuring and sensitive to energy, I will never let anyone touch them ha. The best lessons I’ve learned along this journey is package your product exactly how you want and be as creative as you want. People will feel the energy and it will sell itself. Your passion and love will be felt and many people will appreciate how dedicated you are.
Buy from wherever you need to. Whole sellers can sometimes be expensive and slow to ship, so buy what amounts you need need, save the money and then build in your lead times to work with whole sellers. I also recommend going to spiritual events and asking other vendors where they get their product or if they will sell in bulk to you. I’ve done that many times and it keeps the money in the community and you get to support local businesses rather than big box.
