Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Ngor Adub. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Ngor, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
It’s a funny story actually, when I first stepped into the world of video editing I hated it so much, got upset many times and wanted to quit. I knew the first step to becoming a content creator was learning how to edit, but I had no idea it would be this frustrating. My very first editing program was something simple and absolutely free called Videopad, from there I went to Sony Vegas and then finally Adobe Premiere Pro. After countless hours of wanting to jump out of the window, I watched YouTube video after video and soon enough mastered Adobe Premiere which I’ve stuck with to this day.
To be frank, knowing what I know now I don’t think there would have been an easier route actually. Life is not sunshine and rainbows, when you’re hungry and want to learn for yourself, you have to commit and put in your 10,000 hours, it is absolutely mandatory when learning any new skill.
The most essential skill for me that I’ve figured out I would say is including a piece of my personality into the videos. You wouldn’t want someone to come across your videos and think of them as bland, you want them to get a sense of who you are simply by just watching one of your videos.
There were many obstacles that stood in the way, I’m not exactly Dora the explorer, I don’t particularly enjoy exploring and learning new skills. As human beings we’re all systematic in some way, we like to be comfortable. The way my brain is wired it kind of shuts down at the thought of learning something new so tapping into video editing was really tough, but as a future YouTube sensation I knew it had to be done so I made every effort to push through and teach myself.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
My name is Ngor Adub or ‘AwkwardAfrican’ on the internet. Yes I just gave you my full government name. I’m a comedic content creator/vlogger from Jacksonville, Florida. I’m a very animated, energetic, creative soul who loves to make others laugh. I watched YouTube videos and especially prank videos all throughout highschool, it was at this time that I realized what I wanted to do with my life. To prank unsuspecting citizens of society and get paid for it.
Right after graduating I pursued my dreams. I had no idea if I would “make it” or not but I knew one thing, I believed in myself and knew I had what it took. Like a madman who was looking for treasure, I scrambled to find the cheapest nearby camera that I could find and when I found it I started my YouTube journey. Fast forward some odd years later and I hit 30,000 Subscribers and a combined total of 3.7 million channel views. Don’t ask how I got here because I do not know. When your mind is made up and dead set on achieving something, you will stop at nothing until you get it.
What sets me apart aside from my creativity I’d say is my humility, I’ve never forgotten where I’ve come from and never will. When you watch my videos I want to feel like a friend and not just another creator who you can’t reach out and talk to. I’m not a numbers guy or in it for the views, but my most proudest achievement is thirty thousand people saying, “hey I like this awkward guy, I think I’ll subscribe.” But the absolute main thing that I would like the people to know about me is that I work hard to make videos simply for your enjoyment, a piece of me thinks that it’s my sole purpose on this earth, to make others smile.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
The number one goal for me is to catapult into my full potential, which is acting and directing in bigtime projects. Being an actor is something I have always wanted to be and by using Tik tok and YouTube as a means of getting my name out there, I firmly believe it will happen.

How did you build your audience on social media?
It was actually a pretty well thought out and clever plan. I built my audience on social media through my viral music video parodies on YouTube. For those of you who don’t know what parodies are, they’re just comedic renditions of popular works of art. I would throw these big name rappers’ names into the titles of my videos and remix their biggest songs, next thing you know the views and audience would come. For my up and coming creators, sometimes you have to take a creative approach when first starting your creative journey, you cannot be boring. You must be consistent, capture people’s attention, and keep it. I went from musical parodies to pranks, so also never ever be afraid to branch out and try new things.
