We were lucky to catch up with Neyeli Carrillo recently and have shared our conversation below.

Neyeli, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.

My name is Neyeli Carrillo; I am a mechanical engineer, a certified travel agent, and the creator of Traveling Factor.

The idea of this business came to me after several failures; I had a full-time job at a fantastic manufacturing company and moved from Mexico to the USA to work for this company; I was living the dream! Sadly one day and without previous notice, the goal ended, and it hit me in the worst possible way; suddenly, I had no job, and my entire life settled in another country (not my home country). These events drove me to a severe depression (which I was not aware of at that moment) and led me to feel useless and small as time went by, and all my job applications were answered with a “We will not continue with the hiring process this time,” and believe THAT HURTS! After all these rejections, I tried to start my projects; crafting was my first option, but depression, anxiety, and the constant feeling of inferiority were not the best combos to grow a business, total failures. Then I tried a catering company, but as you can imagine, my mental health combo was there by my side, pulling me down, but it is from this business that the magic came; believe me when I tell you that the help you need could come from places that you ca even imagine! A woman contacted me to cater an event that was canceled later (That was sad at that time); I don’t know what this wonderful lady saw in me that, without even knowing me personally, she invited me to work on a different project: planning trips for a company’s clients. At that time, I was desperate for money, so I immediately accepted (even when I had no idea how to do it); IT CHANGED MY LIFE!! I found something I was passionate about and enjoyed, which made me want to get out of bed; I wanted to do this every day! The job she offered was temporary; these corporate trips happen 1-2 times per year; at that moment is when the idea came to me, I would make this my full-time job, a travel agency to help not only companies to plan their trips but also families, couples and people. The timing was perfect, we were coming from a terrible pandemic, and people had to pause their traveling plans; now, finally, many were looking to resume them. So I put all hands on deck and started researching to become a travel agent; I wanted to do it right. I got many certifications and took many courses; I love traveling and have lived in different countries; I got a strong background and was ready and made for this!!
I decided to go public with my travel business at the beginning of this year, and the answer has been fantastic; I have achieved more in these months than in all the time I spent with my other business trials, and I want more I want this to be bigger every day!

1: I am a Mechanical Engineer👷🏼‍♀️ Yes, believe it or not, I have a bachelor’s degree and a minor in Administration; this allows me to have a unique combination of technical and interpersonal skills, which makes me well-rounded and versatile. I can use technical expertise to solve complex problems, plan and communicate effectively.

2: I adore Disney 🏰✨and all the magic it brings into my
life. I’m that crazy person who memorizes every dialogue from Disney’s classics.

3: 🇲🇽🇨🇦🇬🇧🇩🇪🇺🇸I have lived in various countries at different stages of my life, and I have gained a wealth of knowledge about diverse cultures and ways of life.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?

NEVER GIVE UP! (if you are a Formula 1 fan, you know) Maybe now you are feeling down because you have tried many jobs or businesses and haven’t succeeded as you hoped; keep trying. Perhaps you still need to find that thing you are passionate about!

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?

I am still trying to figure out social media. I have seen many videos and taken many digital marketing courses, and all of them have one piece of advice in common: CONSISTENCY. Post on social media as often as possible (daily if possible). You won’t get a million followers quickly, but you will get a space in people’s subconscious, which is gold! When people think about the product that you sell, they will think of you (even if they don’t know why)
