Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Neveah Valdizan. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Neveah , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today One of the things we most admire about small businesses is their ability to diverge from the corporate/industry standard. Is there something that you or your brand do that differs from the industry standard? We’d love to hear about it as well as any stories you might have that illustrate how or why this difference matters.
I’m not your typical musician. Instead of fancy instruments and studios, I use my smartphone and some cool apps to make my music. I didn’t take formal music lessons either. Nope, I learned by watching YouTube and using an app called Smule.
With just my iPhone, I record my singing using an app called Voice Memos, write my lyrics in the Notes app, and mix it all up with GarageBand. And guess what? I made my whole album like this when I was just a freshman in high school!
My story shows that you don’t need fancy stuff or special training to follow your music dreams. I’m all about spreading the message that anyone, no matter how young or where they come from, can make music. I even teach classes to help others use their smartphones to create music too.
So, yeah, I’m kind of breaking the rules in the music world, but I want everyone to know that they can tell their stories through music, no matter what they’ve got.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m Neveah Valdizan, a young music prodigy who embarked on a unique musical journey, overcoming obstacles to make my mark in the music industry. At just 13 years old, I dreamt of sharing my story through music, even though I lacked instruments and formal training. What I did have was a smartphone, and I used it to create music using MIDI, Voice Memos, and GarageBand apps, a journey documented in various articles.
I’m proud to have completed my first album as a freshman, a remarkable achievement for someone my age. This innovative approach to music production, entirely on my smartphone, distinguishes me from others in the industry.
My dedication to music and technology has earned recognition from various sources, including my high school, prominent figures like Senator Mitt Romney, and even the tech music giants at Smule.
I’m not just about music; I’m also committed to inspiring others, especially teens, to follow their dreams. I’ve started teaching classes at my local library, showing people how to create music using their smartphones, emphasizing that everyone has the tools at their fingertips.
In essence, I want potential followers and fans to know that I’m not just a musician; I’m a symbol of innovation and determination. My story showcases how technology can democratize music creation, allowing anyone to pursue their passion and tell their unique stories through music.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
I faced a tough challenge when I approached a radio station with my music. Despite all my hard work creating an entire album during the COVID-19 lockdown and receiving recognition from my school and even prominent figures, I felt ignored and shut down by the station. I believed it was because of my race. It was a difficult situation, but I didn’t give up. I reached out to them, asked for feedback, and even met in person to discuss my concerns. I wanted to be heard and make a change. Even though it didn’t lead to the outcome I hoped for, I learned that I could stand up for what I believe in and keep pushing forward despite obstacles.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
When I was 13, I really wanted to make music to share my stories, but I faced a problem. I didn’t have fancy equipment, I couldn’t play instruments, and there was a pandemic going on. So, I had an idea. I decided to use my smartphone. With it, I made a whole music album when I was just a freshman in high school. That’s when things changed for me. I became known as a tech music prodigy, and my music journey took off. It showed me that you don’t always need expensive stuff or traditional ways to follow your dreams. Sometimes, all it takes is a creative pivot, like using what’s in your hand to make something amazing happen.
