We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Nevaeh Newnham. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Nevaeh below.
Nevaeh, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s jump back to the first dollar you earned as a creative? What can you share with us about how it happened?
My first dollar earned as a creative was at my first event vending! I had never been a vendor at an event and this had been something I wanted to do since I was little. Me now being older, I knew that I could take this responsibility on my own. My first ever sale was one of my crochet bats! I was ecstatic and even got a little teary eyed. This was the first time I felt confident about selling my creations and continuing this into the future. The customer also saw my creation online and looked for my booth specifically!

Nevaeh, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Nevaeh and I am 21 years old! My business is WhimsyFaeCreations. I have been creating since I was very young often doing crafts with my grandma. This shaped how I grew up often opting for crafting and creating as an escape from reality.
I started this small business a year ago after being encouraged for so many years. I mainly focused with crochet as my medium since I picked it back up when I first started college. I was stressed with college life and crochet was an escape and stress reliever from this.
I do a lot of different creative activities. I crochet, do jewelry making, paint, draw, make clothes, have dabbled into stained glass work, cake decorating, and much more.
I’m most proud of finally starting this journey. I’ve struggled to find a place that I feel like I belong and and deserve to take up space. After finally searching for that for so long I finally feel like I have found it. I’m so excited to continue doing this whole thing in the future!

In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
The best way to support small artists is to show up for them! Follow their social media, like posts, and spread their name around. We get the most recognition from word of mouth and advertising. Sales help tremendously but advertising helps us reach more people!

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect would have to be people’s reactions to my creations. I worried for so long that no one would like what I create. After seeing how many people liked my stuff and their reactions to my creations, this inspired me more to pursue this dream.
