We recently connected with NevadaSYSTEM and have shared our conversation below.
Hi NevadaSYSTEM, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I reflect on my lifelong love and appreciation for music. As a child, I grew up listening to a variety of genres and was always fascinated by the power of music to evoke emotions and connect people. To me, music is a language that can convey emotions in a way that no other art form can. It has the power to transport us to another world, to evoke feelings we never knew existed, and to change our emotions in an instant. Music is a primal energy that can awaken our senses, connect us to each other, and change us in profound ways.
Although I didn’t have any formal music education, I started playing the piano in my adulthood and quickly became passionate about creating my own music. While experimenting with different styles, I discovered electronic dance music production, and it opened up a whole new world for me.
I was captivated by the endless possibilities of combining different sounds and beats to create something unique and exhilarating. I spent countless hours honing my craft, experimenting with different techniques and software, and networking to get my music out there.
As I gained more experience, I was signed with some major labels and featured on prominent news outlets, and my career began to take off. I’ve since had the opportunity to reach audiences around the world, and it’s been an incredible journey thus far.
For me, being a music producer is about using music as a medium to connect with people on a deeper level and create unforgettable experiences. It’s about constantly pushing the boundaries of what’s possible and using the power of music to inspire and uplift others. Overall, I feel incredibly grateful to be able to pursue my passion and share it with the world.

NevadaSYSTEM, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My real name is Qian “Dan” Qiao and I’m originally from Canada, and now call New York home. I’ve become a musician and artist who had the opportunity to make a spectacular ascent in the house and techno worlds.
One of the defining characteristics of my music is my unique ability to combine classical elements with electronic beats. The fusion of warm and traditional piano and string techniques with powerful synthesized bass and harmonic tension creates a sound that is both captivating and emotional.
Over the years, I’ve performed in more than 20 countries across North America, Europe, and Asia. I strive to take my listeners on a journey that transcends boundaries, leaving them with an unforgettable experience.
In my eclectic mix of eastern and western influences, it is evident in my use of beloved electronic staples such as the Rhodes Mk 1, the Prophet 5, and the Roland 909, as well as traditional Chinese instruments such as the yangqin, guqin, and plucked zither.
My innovative sound has also caught the attention of some of the most important DJs in the world signed to major labels including Anjunadeep, Purified Records, Spinnin’ Records, and Armada Music, and my music has been featured on various editorial playlists, including ARTBAT’s playlist, where my track “Eastern Sunrise” was included. In 2022, I collaborated with the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra, where I performed a hybrid set of electronic and Chinese ethnic music alongside bowed-string and plucked-string performers.
I’m proud to say my live performances have gained a loyal following, and my works on YouTube and Spotify have garnered over 1 million views to date. With my unique fusion of classical and electronic music and my ability to take my listeners on an emotional journey, I’m confident my music is poised to become one of the most influential in the electronic music scene

What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
I believe that society needs to recognize and support the value that music brings to our lives. The music industry is constantly evolving, and musicians need the resources and support to continue to create and innovate.
One way society can better support musicians is by ensuring that they are fairly compensated for their work. Artists are often poorly compensated for their work, with low streaming royalties and limited revenue from live performances. This can make it difficult for them to earn a sustainable income and create financial stability.
Additionally, it’s important for society to invest in music education and programs that help to cultivate the next generation of musicians. We need to provide opportunities for aspiring musicians to learn and grow, and to be exposed to different genres and styles of music.
Finally, we need to create a culture that values and celebrates music. Musicians play an important role in shaping our culture and society, and we need to recognize and honor their contributions. By supporting musicians, we can help to create a thriving creative ecosystem that benefits everyone.

Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
In addition to honing your creative skills as a musician, it’s important to recognize that the music industry is also a business. Knowing how to navigate the business side of things is crucial for artists who want to thrive and succeed in this industry.
For example, it’s important to understand contract negotiation and intellectual property rights in order to protect your work and ensure that you’re being fairly compensated for your contributions. Additionally, building relationships with industry professionals and understanding how to market yourself and your music can help you to expand your reach and grow your fanbase.
Financial management is also an important aspect to consider. As a musician, income can be inconsistent and unpredictable, so it’s important to have a plan for managing your finances and building financial stability. This includes creating a budget to prioritize key projects and evaluate risk/reward trade-offs that allow you to cover your expenses while reinvesting in your career.
Overall, being a successful musician requires a combination of creative talent and business savvy. By recognizing the importance of both, artists can set themselves up for long-term success and create a sustainable career in the music industry.
