We recently connected with Neslene J Sahagun and have shared our conversation below.
Neslene, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today. Are you happier as a business owner? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job?
Being a business owner truly makes me happy. Not only am I able to make my own schedule and work when I want, but I’m doing something I love and that’s what matters the most to me. Sometimes I think about what it would still be like if I worked my retail job, and it really doesn’t excite me. Although I did love the company and people I worked with, in the end it wasn’t for me.
Neslene, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Neslene Sahagun, and I am the founder of Neskin Beauty. I am a Licensed Esthetician, and I have been providing self-care services for almost 3 years. I got introduced to this industry back in 2020, and it’s been a journey since.
My first interest was lash extensions, but in beauty school, learning facials and other services were a plus. Now, I love it all! I am proud of how far I’ve come as a business owner, and I am so excited for each of my clients to come in and get the Neskin experience.
Can you talk to us about how you funded your business?
I officially started funding and building this business back in 2020. I had to do what everyone should do starting a business and that is to save. Before the pandemic, I was working in retail and when we went on lockdown, I was receiving unemployment. I was saving but also buying equipment and products. Eventually, I had almost everything I needed to start my business. It did take some time for me to find a space, but I wanted to make sure I was ready and financially stable. Towards the end of 2021, I found a space, decided to start my business, and here I am today!
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I am so grateful that my clientele started with my family and friends, and then eventually reached others by word of mouth. My advice to those who are starting to build their social media presence is to be consistent. Posting and engaging with your followers is essential to building your brand. Don’t be scared to show your face and put out your work. Your clients want to know who you are and what you do!
