We were lucky to catch up with Neskin Sebastien Perrin recently and have shared our conversation below.
Neskin Sebastien, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
When covid happened, i felt stuck at home back in Haiti and was trying to figure out what my next move was. It caused a lot of pain and i know that many of us could say the same. Making art was the best way to express myself and my pain
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
The most important thing about the industry is putting yourself out there. At first we get scared of people who might judge but do it for yourself! I come from P-A-P Haiti where there’s a lot of creativity but it’s not our number one priority. I took the chance and moved to new york city. Where I felt understood and surrounded myself with likeminded people. I started modeling, got featured in magazines and huge social media platforms. I also got into the art industry and had an art exhibition. Im proud to say that everyone that I’ve met so far were always down to help and teach me important stuff. Then i came up with BLANDIT.studios not just a brand but a community where we sell art, objects and meaningful clothing that the world can emotionally relate to.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Personally, the most rewarding aspect of being a creative is when you spend hours on an idea and finally seeing the outcome without caring about what your audience thinks of it.
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
In the beginning of my career friends and family that aren’t as creative would tell me that being an artist isn’t realistic. What I learned is that no one will really understand your ideas except you. You might not be earning as much as a 9-5 working but as long as you love what you’re doing it only gets better and better. It doesn’t feel like work to me.
