Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Neomi Negron. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Neomi, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
Coming up with the idea for Buggy Pops was working in reverse actually. Summer is my favorite time of year, while Winter is my least favorite of all time. I wanted to start a business that required not having to work in the winter. I saw that there was an opportunity in Asheville to start a popsicle business since there wasn’t one. Now I work inside a freezer which is a temporary winter environment that I am completely in control of.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Growing up with immigrant parents taught me what I think is the most important trait I possess, excellent work ethic. I did not go to college, I have had many careers, or what I like to call seasons of jobs. What I did know was that one day I would work in the food industry but I wasn’t sure how. I started our working at a grocery store learning as much as I could of as many food products as possible, then I managed a doughnut shop where I learned many lessons, from what to do, to what not to do. Everything I have experienced and learned along the way has helped me start my own business where I have learned more lessons than ever.
Can you open up about how you funded your business?
Buggy Pops was 100% funded by me! I used a credit card that had a zero balance to fund myself. Luckily, I was able to pay it back in less than a year.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I love social media! I built an audience by having a page that showcases pops on the same plate for every image. I truly had no idea what I was doing when the idea started. I started taking the same picture in the same spot on the same plate, people loved it! I also spend a lot of time supporting other local businesses. Interacting with locals, visitors, and other businesses has helped grow community both on social media and real life.
