We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Nelly Paulser a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Nelly, thanks for joining us today. Can you share a story that illustrates an important or relevant lesson you learned in school
While in High School I had the opportunity to learn alot of skills. We had lessons like Fashion & Fabrics, Food & Nutrition, Art and Flower Arrangement. At that time I really didn’t think the pressure they were giving us to learn these subjects was necessary. I would just learn to pass not necessarily to know the skill. I considered myself an academic and my aim was to be in the Medical field.
My attitude and my level of engagement made it very difficult to learn these subjects and the first chance I got to drop the subjects that’s what I did I dropped them so fast.
What I didn’t know was that I would one day need these skills as I work in the creatives sector. I find myself now and again trying to learn and perfect these same skills. Flower arrangement and Food & Nutrition for instance are skills that I didn’t know were a deep rooted passion in me. As a mother and wife I use these skills in my everyday life. It took me 23years to appreciate the importance of those lessons. Today, I find myself trying to recall the basic lessons I learnt so as to apply them in my life now.
The lesson learnt from my experience is that every opportunity to learn anything, skill or academic, is important. One needs to grab the opportunity with an open mind and put their all to that learning experience. It’s our level of engagement that makes us great in life.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
I first met him in a local printing shop in Bulawayo. He used to help me print all my work. He was always so helpful, reliable and cheerful. At the time, I was an Accountant for a local Non profit . What I never anticipated was 9years down the line I’d be his wife and a year later I would be running a business in the printing industry with him. I guess it’s true that the beauty of a journey is in its unpredictability.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
We just started sharing our work. At the time it was really raw work but what I’ve learnt about our audience is that they love to be a part of our story. As we have grown, we have also improved in our work, presentation and our audience can attest to that.
I have also built our audience from my philanthropic work with young female Entrepreneurs, Youth Entrepreneurs and Kid Entrepreneurs as well as my work in raising awareness of bullying in the learning environment using design and print. I am involved in various Mentorship programs with these various entrepreneurs and I try to help them build their businesses as well as share my stories, mistakes and Entrepreneurship journey with them hoping they can learn something from my journey.
My advice would be just keep sharing your work and stories. As you grow, others grow as well. Always have your audience as a part of your journey. Inspire them to do better always. Whether they like your work or not just know they see your efforts and you are who you are because of them.
