Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Nell Jasinski. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Nell, thanks for joining us today. Can you walk us through some of the key steps that allowed you move beyond an idea and actually launch?
Hello, my name is Nell Jasinski, but everyone calls me Nelly. There isn’t anything to crazy about me or my story; I am your typical twenty three year old girl. I love fashion, watching twilight, drinking my morning coffee, going on hot girl walks, and following all the latest gossip and trends. But I am trying to take a different approach to what I want to do with my life.
I graduated college just over a year ago with a degree in Fine Studio Arts with a concentration in Installation and Mixed Media Studies. I guess when I went to school I had no idea what I wanted to do, I was a first generation college student and my parents weren’t really knowledgable as to which route I should take; so art seemed appropriate enough, and so I grabbed onto the study and ran. While I was studying full-time I also worked full-time. I began as a barista and soon turned into the manager of a small coffeeshop in a small college town. I did the baking, scheduling, social media, and all the other tasks that come with running a coffeeshop! This is all important, I promise!
Anyways, while juggling both school and work I kind of lost track of what I actually wanted to do post graduation. I didn’t even realize how quickly the time would catch up with me, and next thing I knew I had graduated and had no job within my field. I felt like a failure in a way, everyone was moving away from the little college town, and I was staying. My friends were traveling, getting married, moving to new states. I felt like I was following the typical small midwestern system of never moving away after your feet have even been slightly planted in the ground. While in my post-graduation pity party I decided to continue managing the coffeeshop to keep my income afloat. I deleted all my personal social media, to stop comparing my life to others. I began drowning myself in books and my journal. I focused in on myself and really dug deep into who I was, and what I wanted to do. I saved some money, went to Mexico for a couple weeks, and while I was there, I continued running the small coffeeshops social media account.
I am not sure if there was one moment that just made everything click, but at some point while I was in Mexico I realized how much I love working from my phone! I mean how could you not love, laying by the beach, planning your own schedule and working from your phone? It seemed like easy money to me, considering I liked the general concept of posting on social media.
When I came back to the states I devoted myself to the coffeeshops social media accounts and building up a personal brand for myself. I wanted to be different then other social media managers that worked within a big company, but I also wanted to build up enough clients where I could be successful; which I knew would be hard to do by myself. I focused on those small businesses and new startups. The one’s who know how important social media is, but just don’t know how to approach it all. Those small businesses that have owners that live and breath for what they are doing. They are passionate and driven, and maybe just need a little help or creative direction as to how to improve their social presence.
So I dedicated eight hours a day to promoting myself, the accounts I was running, and reaching out to people who I thought might be interested. Somehow I grabbed another client, and then another just by self promoting the work I had done. I began creating portfolios for each account I was running, building agreement forms, and package details. I thought I was faking it until I made it, but really I was faking it until I was doing it. Now here I am, a social media manager and content creator specifically for small businesses and startups. My art degree has pushed my creative direction in terms of layout, design, and aesthetics a step above and everything I do its specifically curated to each client. Like I said, these small businesses are drive and passionate about what they are doing, so it makes me incredible motivated to work for them. I love a small community, supporting small businesses, and helping someone reach their goals. Sometimes all we need is a helping hand, and I am passionate about being that person for businesses. My success is seen through the relationships I build with my clients and how I can reach and exceed their goals and expectations. I love what I do so much, it doesn’t feel like work. I get to use my managerial experience to manage myself and accounts, and my art based background to create beautiful content, creative writing, and captivating social media accounts for people and businesses that I am passionate about.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am in social media management and content creation, I worked in management of a small business for three years and I have a Fine Studio Arts Degree with a concentration in installation and mixed media studies.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
I love being able to build someone/a business up, creating content and layout design is a creative outlet for me which in turn makes me feel built up. It really is a win-win for both the client and myself. We are both being rewarded.

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
I think social media can be a very toxic thing. But now-a-days, if you look at it in an advertising sense, and not a personal social outlet; you can see how pertinent social media is for any brand, business, or person. Social media is provided the bulk advertisement that you see. People aren’t turning on the t.v. every night to watch a show on cable, they are watching it on Netflix or HBO. When you see a running video ad its normally before a youtube video, but now peoples brains cant even stay focused on Youtube videos that are twenty minutes long so they run onto Tiktok. This is where you see influencers or businesses promoting products, you can click a button and buy everything or book an appointment so instantaneously. Instagram feeds are flooded with products, services, and people being promoted. So for someone who is not a creative, being a social media manager or a content creator might seen fluffy. But we are the ones who are driving your products with eye catching and engaging advertising! We are essential, because non-creatives are not thinking outside of the box like creatives are. They aren’t coming up with those ideas that just send a products sales skyrocketing. Creatives look at a problem from every angle and they come up with a million different solutions and variations to any problem, so don’t be so quick to write us off! We could be more of an asset to your team then you believe.
