Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to NekoMeda. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
NekoMeda, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. One of the things we most admire about small businesses is their ability to diverge from the corporate/industry standard. Is there something that you or your brand do that differs from the industry standard? We’d love to hear about it as well as any stories you might have that illustrate how or why this difference matters.
In my journey from being a social media influencer to working in TV production, I’ve noticed a significant difference from the industry standard. Most of my initial content was geared towards the more organic and relatable nature of social media, while TV production requires a highly scripted and detailed approach. I embraced this challenge and through my training and experience, managed to bridge the two content worlds. I learn how to create professional content that maintains the authenticity of user-focused content. I believe this approach helps in making TV content that resonates with viewers, feel real, and genuinely captures their interest in the subject matter.
The best example I can give is how some of the most successful ADs on TikTok that sell hundreds and thousands of products are not necessarily the most high-definition productions with professional actors. Instead, it’s the ones that resonate and relate to the needs and interests of those watching. This insight has been invaluable in my transition to the TV production industry, where I’ve strived to create content that similarly captures the genuine interest of viewers and maintains that sense of relatability.
What we know as lifestyle content on social media, characterized by its “in the moment, realistic, and personal portrayal of people’s lives” is also a category on TV. However, the two are vastly different. Social media allows for immediate, unfiltered glimpses into individuals’ daily experiences, while TV lifestyle content often follows a more stricter, edited, and polish approach.
The key distinction lies in real-time authenticity of social media content versus the meticulously planned and produced nature of TV. However, I firmly believe that there’s a great opportunity in merging the two. Combining the relatable and personal elements of social media with the production quality and storytelling capabilities of TV could significantly enhance the TV experience. I’m committed to this journey of blending the best of both worlds to create a more engaging and authentic TV viewing experience.
NekoMeda, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I go by the name of Nekomeda, which isn’t my given birth name, but it’s a name I’ve grown deeply connected to, not only in my online presence but also within my career. It’s a name I’ve painstakingly built a reputation around, recognized as both an influencer and an achiever in my field.
My journey as Nekomeda began as a content creator, and it evolved into a career that encompasses roles such as a TV personality, producer, editor, and even being a loving wife and mother 3 cats. My work primarily revolves around video creation and graphic designs tailored for TV production and social media.
The moment I am most proud of in my career is where I find myself today, as a professional content creator. This pride stems from the unwavering dedication I’ve put into nurturing my passion for video creation. It all started with an interest in making TikTok videos, and it has evolved into creating TV features that are aired on television. And, in between all of this, I still manage to sneak in some client work – because who doesn’t love a good multitasking challenge, right? 😉
Looking forward, I aspire to continue my work as an editor and producer, collaborating on exciting productions, and eventually creating my own successful works. With this article, I hope to garner support of more readers who share my passion for content creation and appreciate the journey I’ve embarked on as Nekomeda.
Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
Now get ready for a laugh because this is where it gets mushy and fun. My partner in both business and marriage is none other than my husband, Torameda. Yes, you guessed it, we absolutely thrive on those matching usernames – because, why not, right?
Our love story began in a quirky art class back in college, and the rest is history. We started our journey into content creation as a shared relationship hobby, which soon evolved into the beloved brand we now know as Neko and Tora. Together, we share a passion for gaming, content creation, and squeezing every drop of excitement out life, no matter how brief or wild it may be.
I owe a lot of my success to his guidance. Without Tora’s support, I seriously doubt I’d be where I am today. I mean, who else could help me navigate the wild world of usernames and relationships simultaneously?
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
What I find truly fulfilling as an artist or creative is the immediate sense of satisfaction I get from a simple stroke of a brush or a few clicks on an editing timeline. My work is a visual representation of my learning and growth process.
Drawing from my Korean heritage, we have a wonderful tradition known as Doljanchi, a celebration for a baby’s first birthday. In the midst of this celebration lies a delightful custom called doljabi, which a line objects is laid out for the baby to choose from, essentially determining their own path. When I was a baby, I choose a paintbrush, signifying a creative journey ahead, and I must say, “yay baby me!” It seems I made a pretty awesome choice.
