We were lucky to catch up with Neil Yuzon recently and have shared our conversation below.
Neil, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
I picked up a camera in 2014, I had just finished x-ray school and started working as an x-ray technologist. Learning photography was somewhat similar to x-ray, just a different type of photo using radiation for exposure vs light with photography. I think 6 months into learning how to photograph, I got asked to help photograph an event and I got paid to do so. It sparked an interest of, “this could be something I do for a living,” But it wasn’t until last year that I took the leap to go full time freelance.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I really got into video production, during the pandemic. I had been dabbling into making videos while learning photography, creating dance highlights for my dance crew and I, to then creating event recaps/highlights, to creating wedding films for friends, to now creating videos that are story driven. Through my video production company, I help brands grow with story driven videos, as well as covering events to be relived through video and/or photos. Storytelling through photos and/or videos, is my passion.
Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
I wish I knew about or of something like Creators University sooner, that taught the business aspect of being a professional creative. That was the biggest thing that kept me from going full time freelance sooner, was that I did not know how to operate as a business. Doing the creative part is the easy thing, finding clients was not.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
To live life intentionally and in my purpose.
