We were lucky to catch up with Neil Wachs recently and have shared our conversation below.
Neil, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
I actually learned how to act by watching others. I don’t know if the process could have been sped up. I am given a part and I try to imagine being that person. Some call it method acting, I call it pretending. Regardless, the skill of pretending or acting to be someone else is needed.

Neil, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I became an actor after retiring from the Beauty Industry. I was too young to retire. I don’t golf so I needed to find something to keep me busy. I started by getting paid to watch TV shows being filmed. I was invited to join an acting agency. Then my career began, I started getting background jobs without speaking parts. Then came speaking lines, and before I knew it I was a professional actor. One of my biggest jobs was working with Kai Cenat and Kevin Hart on a live stream. The stream was viewed by over 600,000 viewers, this broke the record of the highest amount of people watching a live feed! The stream was all ad-libbing and it was amazing to do.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My goal is simple. Enjoy each project and do the best job that I can. My mission is to keep as busy as the industry allows me to be.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
When I retired from the Beauty Industry I needed to reinvent myself. I was over 60 at the time and looked over options that I had. You can never be too old to reinvent yourself. Dont worry about failing, you will get more “no’s” then “Yes’ ” in this industry. You can’t allow this to stop you. Keep plugging away and dont accept failure.
