We recently connected with Nehemy Manigat and have shared our conversation below.
Nehemy, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
The project that holds a special place in my heart is “S E C U R I T Y.” Although this project has yet to be realized in its entirety, is in motion and carries a profound meaning for me. It represents a significant shift in the focus of my artistry and the utilization of my platform for a greater purpose.
“S E C U R I T Y” isn’t just a project to me, it’s a heartfelt endeavor rooted in the values of promoting confidence, self-love, and a genuinely healthy self-view. The motivation behind this project stems from a growing concern over the disheartening impact of today’s media on individuals’ self-perception. We live in an era where mainstream media often seems to do the opposite of nurturing a positive self-view, fostering insecurities instead.
My vision for “S E C U R I T Y” is to be a counter-narrative, a beacon of positivity. It’s a creative exploration intended to remind the masses that their inherent beauty is not contingent upon their perceived insecurities. One of the defining characteristics of this project is its continuity. “S E C U R I T Y” will be an evolving, ongoing effort, with multiple editions. Each edition will delve into different facets of self-perception, beauty, and self-acceptance. It’s a testament to the idea that the journey toward self-love and embracing one’s true beauty is an ongoing process, an ever-evolving exploration of the self.
I hope that “S E C U R I T Y” will not only serve as a personal achievement but also as an inspiration to others. I aspire to be a catalyst for people to confront and overcome their insecurities, fostering a profound transformation toward embracing their inherent beauty and self-worth. In a world that often emphasizes flaws and imperfections, I believe that through art, we can contribute to a shift in perspective, guiding individuals toward a more positive, accepting, and secure view of themselves. In the end, it’s a project not just about creating images; it’s about fostering a healthier relationship with oneself and encouraging others to embark on that journey of self-discovery and self-acceptance.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Nehemy Manigat, born and raised in Miami, Florida to Haitian parents. I’ve been surrounded by creatives my whole life with family members who were in music and visuals arts so getting into creating was almost inevitable. From a young age I started with creative writing and drawing which over time led to photography. I try to weave together the power of imagery and narrative, using my camera as a tool to share captivating stories with the world.
Through my lens, the ordinary transforms into the extraordinary. Each piece of art is a carefully crafted masterpiece, capturing the essence of the moment and revealing the hidden beauty in even the simplest of moments. No matter the subject my goal is to bring out the inherent beauty and emotion in every frame.
Outside of portrait and wedding photography a large part of what I do is content marketing. Using the visuals that I create to help drive traffic to businesses that need the help. One of my proudest accomplishments has been working with ADDICT Miami and Perry Ellis on campaigns for their collections. Being able to garner to the trust of brands and retailers that big was a huge nod at the passion and professionalism that I put into my craft.
The tagline that I base my brand and business on is “Visuals Matter” and I live by that. The way things are represented visually have a direct correlation on how they’re received. Since visuals matter it is important to always get the best to capture what will represent you and because visuals matter it is important to always for your best foot forward when you’re trusted to capture someone’s visuals. That’s my approach.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
I like to believe that my purpose in life is to bring joy, positivity, and encouragement to everyone that I come across. In 2018 I learned that I could use photography to accomplish that purpose. That year my mentor and our team started an AirBnB experience where we offered a lifestyle photoshoot and a mini tour of the Miami area. A lot of the clients we got said how they either never felt comfortable taking photos or rarely ever seen a photo of themself that they liked. The reactions we would get from the clients gave me a sense of fulfillment that I wasn’t able to get from anything else up until that point. From then onward my goal with every shoot, photo/video, has been to give the client a product and experience that made them feel better about themself in some way.
We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
My intention with each client is to build a relationship. I genuinely believe that, regardless of technical ability, the only way to get results that both the client and myself are happy with is having a level of comfortability and chemistry between each other. So I do my absolute best on my part to foster a bit of a chemistry before the shoot by trying to understand the vision, During the shoot we have a conversation, get to know each other, crack some jokes, etc so that we can get comfortable with one another. Most importantly the goal during the shoot is getting the client/model comfortable with the camera! All in all there no real “tactic” for me in fostering loyalty, all there is is genuine relationship building which in turn leads to trust and loyalty.
