We were lucky to catch up with Neha Sharma recently and have shared our conversation below.
Neha , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. How do you think about vacations as a business owner? Do you take them and if so, how? If you don’t, why not?
I absolutely do! I worked for almost a decade without ever thinking about carving out personal time of any sort. I often brought work home, travelled all the time and even though I loved what I did, there was a certain amount of burnout I felt. Now that I have my own company I make time for family, friends and vacations. Time away allows me to come back to work with a lot more enthusiasm and fresh ideas.
No one is indispensable and you can be replaced at anytime, and most people will not prioritise themselves because they fear this. It doesn’t matter how good you are when you’re gone the show goes on, it is this knowledge that kind of sets me free too.
So my advice is to know this well and treat your work as part of your life and the many things you do, not turn it into your whole life. If you work hard remember to play hard too. Striking a balance is difficult but it can be done when you prioritise yourself.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’ve always been drawn to creative pursuits, whether it was theatre, or twelve years of dancing professionally to now pursuing a career as a film maker. When I got into films, I was much older, had never picked up a camera and got my first job because I was great with people and they thought I’d make a good producer. I was relentless, I took every opportunity to learn, and taught myself everything on the job. every time I was told I cannot do something, it only fuelled my drive to excel.
I upskill every chance I get and in the past decade I have taught myself to produce, direct, film and edit small projects. That’s a huge leap from where I started. My company, Luna Studios, now has two arms. One does wedding films and photography and the other part is involved in brand films, and anything else we can get our hands on in the indie space. Amongst all the noise that exists in the social media space we are focussed on making films that tell stories and aren’t just a montage of glorious shots fit for reels and tiktok.
I’m most proud of the fact that all of our work comes from word of mouth. It proves to me that we have hit the mark every time and don’t take the faith people put in us for granted.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I think we have been able to build our reputation solely on the fact that we approach every project like it will be our last. We don’t take any job for granted and don’t allow ourselves to be bored by repetition rather as an opportunity to hone all the skills we need to complete the project on hand. We can be consistently relied on to produce good work. And I think consistency is where you build a reputation, when people know that they will get what they came for. Extra points if what they get is better that what they had imagined it would be!

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
As a creative the most rewarding thing is seeing our projects come to alive. Film making is a collaborative undertaking and to see the hard work of so many people come together to give life to a single project is incredible.
