Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to NeeQ . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
NeeQ, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
I learned how to make beats before learning how to put rhymes together. I started by going to see my friend produce for about half a year and picking up skills from what I saw him do. I then went on to studying sound engineering and read a bunch on techniques and producing tricks. But, I found that I started to really produce my own style and build good songs when I threw the rulebook out the window and really started creating with what I liked and what sounded good to my ear. I now feel like the more isolated you are and the more you self teach yourself, that’s what the magic really happens.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Neeq and I’ve been a hiphop artist since 1999! I started in highschool with my group “Appollo”. I started as a producer and found the love of the microphone after adding random lyrics to my beats to hear some sort of final product (more like demos). Growing up in the 90s, I tended to fall is what was cool and working at the time, but I am most proud of my recent work as it’s a lot more “me” and different to what’s already out there. I find great pride in trying ti create something that new to the industry that come from the “real me” and less exterior influences. I have different projext of various genres and love that I can adapt to many styles.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
The music industry is a roller-coaster ride ! There will be many downs and a few ups ! I found useful to understand that sometimes the way down can (if well managed) give great momentum to the next up! I had a meeting with Sony, and other great labels where I felt like I was very close to signing a deal. Or, hoping to book great shows and festivals where the outcome didn’t happen as I wanted. I’ve decided that all these letdowns would be part of my success interview later… the process and letdowns will create my perfect story for when I make it! So these little road blocks help me learn and approach the future in a positive way.

Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
I just wish we had youtube and social media when I first started to do music. I feel these platforms definitely help to learn about any skill and also make it easy to market yourself now and really get seen.
