We recently connected with Neda Aria and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Neda, thanks for joining us today. One of the things we most admire about small businesses is their ability to diverge from the corporate/industry standard. Is there something that you or your brand do that differs from the industry standard? We’d love to hear about it as well as any stories you might have that illustrate how or why this difference matters.
In my career as an author, I pride myself on not adhering strictly to the traditional boundaries of genre. My work often straddles the lines between transgressive fiction, sci-fi, dark romance, and hybrid writing. This approach not only allows me to explore complex themes and emotions in more depth but also resonates with a diverse audience looking for something beyond the mainstream narrative structures.
For example, in my books like “ENARO” and “Feminomaniacs,” I blend elements of science fiction with dark and transgressive themes. This mixture is not just about creating shock value; it’s about delving into the unspoken or often ignored parts of human experience and societal constructs. The reaction from readers has been profoundly impactful, as it often prompts them to question and think critically about the world around them. This divergence from the standard industry approach isn’t just a stylistic choice—it’s a deliberate method to engage and challenge my audience, encouraging them to see beyond the surface of everyday life or basically what’s trendy to read. For me reading and writing should cultivate thinking. Of course books are a form of entertainment but what differs them from any other form of entertainment is the ability to give the audience a safe quiet space to be themselves and to give them the ability to think and to get creative to understand and visualize what the author has been creating. Because of this, I believe trends such as Booktok, is ruining the essence of what books are for.

Neda, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am Neda Aria, an author deeply entrenched in the world of transgressive fiction, science fiction, and dark romance. My journey into writing began from a simple passion for storytelling and a desire to explore the darker, often uncharted territories of human emotion and societal norms. Over the years, my craft has evolved into a unique blend of genres, where I strive to push the boundaries of conventional narratives to provoke thought, engage deeply with my audience, and challenge the status quo.
My works primarily involve novels and short stories that intertwine elements of sci-fi with the raw, unfiltered essence of transgressive fiction. This combination allows me to address complex themes such as human psychology, dystopian futures, and the inherent conflicts of society. Through my writing, I aim to provide a voice to the voiceless and to shed light on the parts of our existence that are often neglected or misunderstood.
What sets me apart from others in my field is my fearless approach to taboo topics and my commitment to authenticity. My stories don’t shy away from the gritty realities of life; instead, they embrace these elements to enhance the narrative’s impact. This has not only helped me develop a distinct voice but has also enabled me to connect with readers on a profound level, offering them a form of cathartic exploration through my books.
I am most proud of my ability to remain true to my vision despite the challenges that come with tackling controversial subjects. My writing is not about providing comfortable escapism—it’s about presenting reality in its most raw form, which can be both unsettling and enlightening.
For potential clients, followers, and fans, I want you to know that my brand is built on the foundation of courage, innovation, and genuine storytelling. Each piece I write is crafted with the intention to not only entertain but to also provoke thought and evoke emotion. Whether you are looking for an escape into dystopian worlds or a deep dive into the complexities of human nature, my books offer a fresh perspective and a bold approach to storytelling that you won’t find in mainstream literature.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
One significant lesson I had to unlearn was the idea that as an author, I needed to adhere strictly to a single genre to be successful. Initially, I felt pressured to fit my writing into the conventional boxes of either sci-fi, romance, or literary fiction. The turning point came with my first major project (in English), where I decided to blend elements of postmodern narration with sci-fi. This risk paid off, opening up new creative avenues and allowing me to connect with a broader audience. Unlearning this restrictive view on genre not only freed my creative process but also helped me establish a unique voice in the literary world.
Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
One book that has profoundly influenced my approach to time management and productivity for over 20 years is “Eat That Frog!” by Brian Tracy. This book teaches the importance of tackling your most significant and challenging task first. I’ve adapted this principle to fit my dual commitments: managing my full-time job and pursuing my passion for writing. Each day, after my job duties are complete, writing becomes my primary ‘frog.’ This disciplined approach has been incredibly effective, allowing me to achieve an impressive milestone of writing one million words last year. By consistently dedicating time to write, no matter the circumstances, I’ve not only enhanced my productivity but also solidified my routines and workflows, significantly impacting my entrepreneurial mindset and overall efficiency.
