Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Nazhae Lockwood . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Nazhae , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What do you think it takes to be successful?
To be successful you have to accept the fact that you’re going to take losses to get to the wins. Putting in the work that others try to avoid throughout the process. Hard work, determination, consistency, and discipline. To be successful you have to understand that failure plays a role, but as long as you’re willing to keep pushing, it’ll all pay off.
Nazhae , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’ve been lashing for about 4 years now. It all started after I dropped out of college and decided that I was more interested in joining the beauty industry. Seeing my friends tryout eyelash extensions often gave me the idea, so I took the necessary steps to become licensed after months of practice. I always knew that I’d be my own boss but never knew where to start, so then decided to register my business and become more educated by participating in networking events with other entrepreneurs. By far, the best decision I’ve ever made! I enjoy enhancing other women’s by adding eyelash extensions and not only that but in this industry I get to create bonds and mentor many clients that I meet. Knowing how to properly handle/fix problems with clients, when they do escalate is what sets me a part from others because not everyone can handle those situations without reacting in a negative way. Another would be, not looking at others as competition but instead working and collaborating with them.
I’m most proud of how far I’ve come without giving up. The fact that so many women and men are inspired by my drive makes me the happiest and keeps me going! My brand is like my child and I’m so thankful for everyone that has ever supported N.Y.A.Beauty in any way!
Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?
Saving the funds to start up a business started while working my second 9-5. After 3 years of fast food then, 8 months of being a guest service associate, I knew that it was time to start saving and preparing to become my own boss. I started practicing eyelash extensions on my mom and siblings while working my 9-5 until I got better and saved up enough to enroll in beauty school. Later after those 8 months I decided to quit my job with enough funds to start beauty school full time and invest in products/tools for my lash journey.
How did you build your audience on social media?
Today of course we know that social media plays a big role when it comes to marketing. It’s so easy to make a post but knowing your targeted audience will determine the content that is needed to put out. As a young female I target other young ladies of the same age because most are into eyelash extensions more than the older women and young girls, although I enjoy servicing all! Interacting with your audience is very important and posting content that you know will grab their attention will get you the clientele/customers you need.
