We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Naz, Jacqui, Maryam Samenipour, Plonka, Sameni-Pour a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Naz, Jacqui, Maryam thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? What’s the story behind how you came up with the name of your brand?
We wanted our company name to be more than just a name. We wanted it to represent something. We all love science and that’s how we came upon endolith. A microorganism that is able to survive the harshest of climates and live in places that are long considered inhospitable to life. They do this by being able to acquire the necessary resources for growth in inner parts of rocks, and pores between mineral grains. 3ndolith was named with these qualities in mind and the fact that there’s 3 of us as founders.
Naz, Jacqui, Maryam, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
3ndolith is an all women team started by two fashion designers and an industrial designer. Being displeased with the ordinary and the current fashion industry, we imagined what our goals are for an artistic collaboration that goes against mass consumption and greed. We believe that fashion should be a reflection of our values, that by wearing it we are making a statement about who we are and what we stand for. 3ndolith’s vision for a new future is realised through fashion. 3ndolith believes that fashion should be more than just clothing. It should be wearable art that represents our values, identities, and our hopes for a better world.
More than just a clothing brand, 3ndolith strives to reimagine what it means to be sustainable and questioning societal norms. Integrating pre and post-consumer recycled material such a rubber from bicycle inner tubes with responsibly sourced natural fibers and industrial finishes. The results, an extremely versatile collection of pieces that transcend gender or season.
Designed for a post consumerist, post-apocalyptic world, quality and longevity are vital in creating sustainable goods.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
There have been many different avenues for getting new clients. Word of mouth has been the biggest one. We have tried from the beginning to create an atmosphere of trust and loyalty with our clients. This has led to our existing clients helping promote our brand to their friends, colleagues or even strangers on the street or on social media who ask them about the item they are wearing. The other one has been vending in person, so that people are able to touch and try on the products.
We’d really appreciate if you could talk to us about how you figured out the manufacturing process.
We hand make all our products in our studio in Richmond Hill. Two of our cofounders are excellent fashion designers and well versed and experienced in bringing hand drawn sketches to life. We take the designs, make the patterns, cut the pieces on the selected fabric, and make an initial sample. Adjustments are made along the way in the process of making the samples. Over time our process has streamlined for efficiency, sustainability and carbon footprint. We have come to a point that the demand for our best seller are so much greater than our team can meet in a timely fashion. We have been searching for vendors who can meet our high standards, and ethics. Finding the right one, starts by knowing your products, researching the vendor’s capabilities thoroughly, keeping cost in mind and by asking the right questions.
