We were lucky to catch up with Naudia Ingram recently and have shared our conversation below.
Naudia, appreciate you joining us today. Coming up with the idea is so exciting, but then comes the hard part – executing. Too often the media ignores the execution part and goes from idea to success, skipping over the nitty, gritty details of executing in the early days. We think that’s a disservice both to the entrepreneurs who built something amazing as well as the public who isn’t getting a realistic picture of what it takes to succeed. So, we’d really appreciate if you could open up about your execution story – how did you go from idea to execution?
I started my first business around the age of 16-17 years old. I worked at McDonalds as my first job and I saw early on that the workforce was simply not going to work for me. I invested into a new business with my checks and eventually started to focus on that more than giving my time to a job that didn’t really care much for me especially with me being so young and in high school. I did my research to find vendors to supply and start an accessories business selling purses, lashes, and other items. I started working hard and getting my brand name out there instantly. I was extremely focused on growing my dreams to reality and getting new eyes on my business. I attended networking events, genuinely supported other business owners old and new, I did anything to help people remember my name, and it worked! For the next year I focused on selling lashes and working part-time, while taking college courses and still in high school. I also planned and hosted networking events at the time. Then I began to change, again. I had bigger goals, bigger dreams, more experience, and a stringer drive. I needed to do more. One thing I realized about being an entrepreneur is that you have to develop an exit plan. Sometimes we lose passion and long for something new. I asked God what I should do about it and then came more.
Naudia, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Naudia I am born and raised in Atlanta, Ga. I’ve been a full-time entrepreneur for about 3 years now. I am skilled in many fields but my most prominent business is the beauty industry. I started as a hairstylist/lash tech in my momma’s house who was just trying to find a way to make some extra cash as a student and self-funded entrepreneur, just like most women and men in the beauty industry at the age of 18. Within a short period of time I was able to obtain over 400 clients and generate over $80,000 in sales from just my hair business alone.
I also have been studying marketing for 3 years. My goal is to teach as many women like myself who love the beauty industry and wants to turn their passion into money, without experiencing burnout. I also want to teach them how to implement the proper systems and routines into their business. I like to focus on giving marketing direction, the backend of creating and growing a brand. Ive spent years learning my industry, and others. Ive listened to what other beauty entrepreneurs struggle with and even went through some of my own trials and tribulations which has inspired me to want to help others going through some of the same things. I started out helping people for free, but I now offer a number of products and services to help and teach others what I’ve learned that’s helped and hurt me in my time of business. I also teach people how to find what works for their business model as well.
If you’re a beginner hairstylist who is looking to actually learn how to manipulate the industry to generate sales and you are
– Struggling to build clientele
– Lacking systems, proper branding and/or marketing strategies .
– Aren’t making any sales in your business
– Experiencing a hard time creating and promoting quality content.
I am the one for you!
What else should we know about how you took your side hustle and scaled it up into what it is today?
Yes. I was going through a rough transitional phase in my journey and began working at Amazon as a student and knew that entrepreneurship was for me despite what everyone in my life was telling me. I was told I needed to get a job and that I wasn’t doing anything with my life just by focusing on my business and school. So I was forced to get a job. I realized I was wasting my best years giving my time to something with no purpose, somewhere that made me miserable. I didn’t want a dead end job, After 2 months, I took a leap of faith and trusted God. I moved on my decision and quit started doing hair in high school for free just to test my skills and get content to start actively promoting myself. Within a couple weeks, I was booked up and making up to $1000 a week just doing hair at 18, I knew that was just the beginning. I kept reinvesting my money into the business and it kept growing and growing.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
Social Media Marketing
To be more specific, the FREE DM Marketing Strategy.
How that works?
First, I generated a lot of traffic to my social media profiles using many lead generation strategies. Next, I would pay attention to anyone who showed any type of interest in my business. That could look like liking a post, commenting, following, etc. It helped me take a cold audience and transform them into paying customers almost instantly. Even if they didn’t purchase right at the moment of interaction, the customer most likely returns when they need me.
I go more into detail about this FREE strategy that made me lots of sales in my Virtual Video Book “Social Media 2 Income” 777marketing.com
