We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Natty Commodore a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Natty thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
I own a creative agency called BNVS Agency. I always knew that I wanted to go into public relations and be in the entertainment world, but I never really knew how that look. 2020 during the pandemic, I decided to take my social media more serious and actually post real content. I focused on my fitness and body positivity journey and BOOM, I went viral, multiple times. From the vitality I decided to start teaching others how to make content to market their business, much like I was marketing myself as personal brand. I went full speed ahead in creating a social media business, helping with content and managing social media pages. As time went on and I gained more clients, my business hit another shift. I went from managing social media and curating content to curating events and marketing those events using social media marketing strategies. BNVS was always meant to showcase social media as a tool to bring people together but I didn’t know that it would be by focusing on event marketing and using social media as a tool to bring people to a place to have an interactive experience in their community. December 2022, I went full time entrepreneur and it’s been up from there.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Natty, I am an Army veteran and full time creative entrepreneur specializing in event marketing. BNVS Agency is more than my business, it’s my purpose. I help brands and business market themselves through well curated and interactive events. In a digital world we lose that in person energy, as everyone is focused on their phones. My goal is to give people a reason to visit a business or bring people to a place to see and learn more about a brand and leave them wanting to indulge more within that brand or business. I have worked in the hospitality industry, spirits industry, and even the skate community. Highlighting brands an business through an in person experience for their target audience is what I do and I love it.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I always knew that I was meant for something bigger and I took the risk of leaving my hometown in order to chase whatever that something was. I joined the Army and after 7 years I was kicked out with a 60 day notice. I was devastated, I wasn’t ready to start over in as a civilian yet, it wasn’t the plan, I still had 3 years left. BUT I didn’t let that detour me from chasing my purpose and my dream, I was still destined for something bigger. I immediately found a job and I also began focusing on building a brand and business. That happened only 4 years ago in 2020 and now I am living in one of my dreams and constantly reaching new heights.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I built my audience on social media by focusing on the value that I had to give. I knew that I wasn’t the only mother that’s lost weight, or the only one stretch marks. With stretch marks being so taboo and women wanting to hide them, I decided to show mine off. I stopped being ashamed/afriad to show them. As soon as I began being my most authentic self and giving people a since of value, my social media began to flourish. The best advice I would give to those just starting to build would be to stop just posting content. If you post a reel and the views are low, you’re not getting engagement, and you post another reel and the something happens, STOP, it is time to switch up the content because that is not working, no matter how many times you “just post content”. Go back to the drawing board and really think about the ways youre showing up in your content.
