Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Nathly DiMacco. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Nathly, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today If you could go back in time do you wish you had started your creative career sooner or later?
If I could go back in time, I would definitely have started my creative career sooner. I’d been writing songs and creating melodies since I was about 8 years old but was always deterred from showcasing it. Whether they were good or bad, I had no idea, I just knew that no one seemed interested and as a child, that seems important. Starting later has plenty pros AND cons; I feel seasoned and extremely prepared and confident -in myself and my craft. A con? I feel a little old and my focuses have expanded; Im a wife and mother now, they come first and I wouldn’t have it any other way. My journey now consists of a lot of balance and minimal sleep. I also wish i had more hours in the day to get every idea out that I’ve had since I was kid. The only thing I’d change if I started sooner was fight for myself more and STAND ON BUSINESS especially as if pertains to my music- but we’re here now and now we know better!
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’m Nvthly (Nath-Lee)! I’ve been a singer songwriter and recording artist for about 6 years now and it’s been a dream come true. Besides writing and performing, I also put on showcases called The StarrCell, where I give other singer/ songwriters like myself a platform to perform whatever they want in front of an audience of their peers. These events really help us creatives pour into each other and have opportunities to collaborate and meet new creatives. Im so proud to have built a community of like minded people who understand that although we are all on different paths, we can always come together and still have fresh and personal experiences surrounding our crafts.
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
As a society, we need to show up! We need to remember that the purpose of the artist is to reflect the times, so we must allow them to be their truest selves without judgement! We need to go out to these shows! We need to buy the merch! We need to buy the music-yes! Buy it!! No more free artistic labour! Society needs to value the artist and the art and see us as a human NEED because we are needed. “E(ART)H”.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Freedom. For me, creating is one of the most natural things. So being able to make this my life feels like I can do and am doing whatever I want, which feels like freedom.
