We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Nathasha Rumbos a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Nathasha, thanks for joining us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
Long story short I’ve always had the music bug as a young kid which led me into band in middle school and then chorus in high school . It was in that moment that I knew I wanted to be someone in music. I had high hopes in pursuing music professionally after high school but unfortunately the only music college that accepted me my family couldn’t afford which was the University of Miami. I gave up on music throughout my college years because I felt so discouraged. Right when I graduated college I started working with a corporate company doing their publicity and I realized that I wasn’t happy working behind the computer. Honestly, I went into a depression, I could not believe that this was going to be my life. I was always meant to be interacting with people face to face and entertaining because that’s all I ever knew growing up. One day Facebook reminded me of a techno song I wrote with a friend back in high school and it was then that I was inspired to pursue it again and well the rest is history!
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Nathasha Rumbos is a Venezuelan singer/songwriter who lives in the city of Miami. She has been in the world of entertainment since she was very young. She started playing the French Horn in her middle school band, although it was not what she wanted at the time, it served to realize that she had musical aptitudes. When she got to high school, she dabbled in musical theater, joined the choir and it was there that her passion for singing grew. She is inspired by the tropical life of Miami and her songs are written for people to enjoy life, love freely and be their authentic selves. Her sultry yet playful sound and charismatic style have resonated with fans worldwide.
In 2019, before starting her musical career as a soloist, she was invited to sing in various restaurants in the city with Metrosound Miami and at Bayside Marketplace with i95 Entertainment, singing songs by Selena Quintanilla that made everyone dance. In 2020, Nathasha began working with DJ Breezy, music producer of the Alex Sensation show on El Zol 106.7 FM. They already have 5 songs out with a fusion of rhythms under the umbrella of urbano latino. Her music videos have been featured on Telemundo’s Acceso Total and Mega Tv’s Cuentame programs. Nathasha is also on the air every Sunday on La Mega 97.5 FM Rochester’s #1 Latin music station!
Some of the things Nathasha is proud of are the opportunities she’s been offered throughout these 3 1/2 years of pursuing her urban latin music. She’s had the chance to perform in Times Square for Wonderama’s Season 7 taping, performing during the Latin Grammy Music Week 2022 at the Hard Rock was pretty crazy for her, being part of la Calle Ocho Festival 2023 and having the chance to perform in Miami at Daer Nightclub during Art Basel week this year was a beautiful moment for her.
Some of her top singles have been Janguiar which currently has 17k streams on Spotify and it was her first video to reach 1,000 views within the first month! Her latest single Sugadaddi was picked by editors from Spotify and placed on the official Novedades Dembow playlist right when it released in November. With the release of Sugadaddi Nathasha’s official merch has been launched as well. It’s been one hell of a ride with a lot of beautiful accomplishments and we are heading for more!
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
It’s definitely got to be when I perform and I look at people enjoying my music. That is the BEST thing to see and feel. It keeps me motivated to continue pursuing this dream no matter how long it’s going to take. It’s the fact that people connect and feel with what I’m saying is really beautiful.
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
SHARE SHARE SHARE SHARE. Honestly that is so important because since we live in a social media driven society there is always a new pair of eyeballs scrolling through your stuff.
