Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Nathaniel Jenkins . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Nathaniel thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear about how you went about setting up your own practice and if you have any advice for professionals who might be considering starting their own?
Back in 2016 I completed school with 600 hours of anatomy and massage therapy training I knew I wanted to start and create my own healing practice.
The most important step I needed to take was knowing that I was capable. I had to realize That I had the potential of helping others improve and heal. There were many doubts on if I was or could be good enough. Another thing I needed to understand is that to be successful I had to give my practice my full undivided attention. I had many different gigs I was often doing and I was told in a workshop to be an expert at something you can’t have so many other things happening in the background we have to focus on our craft and how to grow it.
I’ve had Grounded yin body. My practice in the Bay Area Californa for 4 years and in that I’ve given workshops, retreats and had many great cleints I’ve come in contact with. I feel very fortunate to be set up to help my community in the way I’ve decided to. It is not the easiest thing to run your own business but it’s very rewarding when I get feedback about how my work, words or touch influence someone’s healing or change.
If I could do anything differently id have less doubt in my abilities. I spent 2 years waiting to take my licensing exam in fear of failing it and having to be rejected which ment I didn’t know what was necessary to live forward. This was all made up inside of my head. I passed the first try. Confidence in your abilities and understanding what we think we can bring into realities were the most important parts of they alchemy that brought me to where I am today.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I found myself in the healing arts through my pie journey of healing. as a child i was starved of connection and touch. My mothers previous pregnancy before mine ended in a death of the child who was my brother. I believe it was difficult for my mother to bond with me and I became deprived of the necessary touch we crave and desire as children.
When I got my first massage at the age of 21 I was blown away at how transformed I felt afterwards it was because of a car accident I’d gotten into. The chiropractor who my vehicle insurance paid for had an on-site massage therapist. I know after that session I wanted to assist people to feel similarly to myself after that first session. I started to give friends neck rubs and foot rubs only to find out I had a special gift with touch. About 6 years later I’d got my first reiki session. I’d known if the term energy or healing before this session but never had I felt so liberated in my own energy as I was after my first session. Life started to become more available. I saw things differently and I knew it had something to do with try e energy healing id received. Not long after this first session I met a woman in college who was a “healer” she took me to my first mind body soul expo. And I knew in that moment I was with my community. I felt at home amongst all of the alternative healing and esoteric mindsets if found myself amongst. I knew for me to really dive deep I had to seek community where I would be lifted up for speaking and seeing through the lens of healing. About a year later I’d went come to visit a friend in San Francisco. It was almost instant that I knew I could be who I desire with ease if I left Chicago and moved west to be around alternative thinkers. In 2014 I made the move. Just 2 years after living here I’d got my certificate in massage therapy. Informed meditation and reiki. I was on a path.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
Make sure your current Cleint’s who appreciate what you do share the message of show you helped them with others who may benefit from the work. Word of mouth is a very useful and potent tool for scaling your business.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I used to take it personally when people did not want to work with me. There are so many reasons why people choose to move on from you as a business. Let them. Allow the focus to be on providing space for those to align with you. If we are focused on what we don’t have and can’t get back we are missing out on making space for those who truly align with our craft. We must know that everything we are doing good or bad is effecting our business. When we are focused on the good it tends to grow good results. Unfits the same effect when we are focused on the negative.
