We were lucky to catch up with Nathaniel Chambers recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Nathaniel thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
So this business was originally started as a way for small businesses and high school athletes to get their name on the cover. As the newspaper industry is seemingly dying, our original founder wanted to fill the void there and help people who otherwise would not have been in the newspaper get the proper coverage they deserve.
Fast forward to the launch of the business and it wound up becoming more of a gift-giving business. People order these custom newspaper-style stories for their loved ones for different holidays and occasions to highlight what they mean to them and why they love them so much.
In that, our mission became simple: our CEO Ross Tucker wants as many people to be able to have a story written about them before it is too late. As people get older, they have obviously lived fuller lives, but the reality is most newspaper coverage is the same thing over and over again. The likelihood of people actually having a meaningful piece written about them is pretty low, which is where we come in. We write stories about the people who deserve the spotlight but maybe would never get it otherwise. We want the people who mean the most to you to be reminded of this fact and to grace the cover of the newspaper.
For me personally, it is meaningful because, every time I hear someone’s story, it amazes me. There is something special about each and every person out there, and whether it be the story of how they met their significant other or a story of them serving others, there is a unique facet to everyone. You just have to find it, and being able to do good by writing these stories about “everyday” people is impactful to me. It allows me to help others remind their loved ones that they love and appreciate them.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
For me personally, I am just a simple guy. I am rooted in my faith and am close with my family and friends, and I believe faith and family are the core of who I am. I also love watching and playing sports, and playing sports video games as well. I like to travel too, and I have been to numerous U.S. states and the Dominican Republic.
So I actually got into this industry because of my sports fandom. My entire life it was a dream of mine to work for ESPN, but politics and COVID kind of changed my perspective and my dreams. I had decided to study journalism (although I ironically did not ever like writing English papers) and pursue my sports coverage dreams that way, until the landscape of everything changed and I decided that I would put my sports dream on hold. Instead, I kept pursuing journalism at Liberty University after community college, got an associate’s, bachelor’s and master’s degree, and here I am. I had actually started as an unpaid intern for the business before ultimately being promoted to running the day-to-day operations of MyFrontPageStory.com, which I have been doing for close to four years now.
Our product offering is simple: we offer three different custom story sizes for people looking for a unique and meaningful way to commemorate their loved one. We focus solely on writing personalized newspaper-style stories for people, and through our different options and add-ons, there are choices for anyone on any budget looking for a special gift to give someone for any occasion.
The biggest problem I would say we solve is the inability to find a truly cherishable keepsake gift. So many gifts get lost or do not last long, but our stories stand the test of time and last, honestly, forever. The other problem we solve is gifting a truly unknown gift. So many people don’t know what to get a loved one that will be a true surprise, but this is one of those gifts, as most people will be surprised when they open up a FrontPage Story written all about them.
What sets us apart from others is our genuineness. We have a team of journalists at the ready who write each story uniquely. We don’t use AI or any other technology to write these stories, but instead we take the time to hand-craft every story based on the information provided to us by our customers.
What I am most proud of is the fact that we don’t cut corners. We want to make sure every story is accurate and correct, and we also want each story to sound genuine. We also give you a sense of realness through our communication, as we interact with our customers from start to finish – from the time they order to the time we design their stories (and ship them too if they order the print and/or frame option).
What I want potential clients to know is that our process is simple and you get the credit for the work of our professional journalists. You just have to provide answers to questions (whether through a form interview or a phone interview) and some pictures, and we handle the rest. It is truly a special way to show your love to someone and to win at gift giving.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
This is still something we are working on to this very day, but one of the best ways I found to grow our audience on Twitter (now X) in particular was through following people who are active on the platform, have a certain follower to following ratio, don’t have too little followers, and follow certain pages.
Outside of that, honestly the biggest things on social media are to be present and to be genuine. Interact with different pages, jump on what’s trending early, and pull at people’s heartstrings with real videos/testimonials.
Despite what people will tell you, there is no one specific way to truly grow your audience. Your audience will grow naturally if you have a great product, etc. and/or if you find the right formula. At the end of the day, you have to give people a reason to follow you. If you individually are not going to follow hundreds of companies just because you like them, but instead want to keep the number you follow down, why would other people want to follow your company in particular. Find that thing that makes you follow-worthy, whether it is through telling a story, using humor, or being savages like Wendy’s.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
Honestly, for us what works is the radio and podcasts. Our CEO has his own podcasts and makes guest appearances on other sports podcasts where he will occasionally talk about MyFrontPageStory.com. But it also works because our best audience for this product is middle-aged men who like sports and don’t know what to get their women for special occasions.
