We were lucky to catch up with Nathanael Cox recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Nathanael, thanks for joining us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
I honestly didn’t have any intention of setting on a creative path per se. This whole “creative” thing for me truly was an accident. When I got my first “real” DSLR, it was mainly because I wanted to be able to print and hang my own photos in my house that I took on my travels. Back when I started getting back into photography, I was taking pictures with a really old iPhone 4S and couldn’t print my shots because the resolution wasn’t high enough back then. Once I started printing my photos way back in 2017, things kind of took a turn of their own.

Nathanael, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
To introduce myself, my name is Nate and I am a photographer! I primarily do nature, landscapes and cityscapes and most of my work is international in nature. My journey has been quite a long one, but I originally started learning photography with film and eventually made my way to digital photography as my current medium. I have my best work online in the form of acrylic photographic prints or traditional matted photographic prints. The goal of my photography is to inspire you to explore and expand your horizons and if feasible, travel and see somewhere new!

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
I think the most rewarding aspect is the friendships I have made along the way. Since most of my work is international, I do a fair bit of traveling to see different places. I have been fortunate enough to meet some pretty interesting people on almost every trip I have taken so far and hope to continue that trend.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Back in 2020, I had started to submit my work to smaller local exhibitions in New Jersey. I had answered an ad on Craigslist and was able to work with a smaller group to put up one of my earliest works in a restaurant. Unbeknownst to me, while my work was on display, the group had decided to hold a new exhibition with rotating monthly groups of artists. I, unfortunately, wasn’t made aware of the new format and wasn’t given the chance to apply to be a part of any of the new exhibitions. A month later I was accepted into the largest show I had ever been in at the time(the MvVO Ad Art Show) and still work with that group to this day(shout out to Maria, Lauren, and the rest of the MvVo crew). When one door closes, another opens. You just need to be willing to put in the work and be open to / look for new opportunities.
