We were lucky to catch up with Nathan + Skye Reyes recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Nathan + Skye Reyes, thanks for joining us today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
We believe our mission is to serve delicious, craft coffee while being a light in every space and place we enter. Serving with full and light hearts to all people at their days biggest celebrations, in office or anywhere.
Nathan + Skye Reyes, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
We are a mobile coffee cart while staying craft. We had around 5 years of total barista/coffee training experience at local shops between the two of us and had a deep desire to take the coffee shop culture into any space, place, event or moment.
We started our business in November of 2020 when Covid was still prominent and creating effects on every industry, so it began as a side hustle and now, we both work on the cart full time (and have for our whole second year in business!) Its been a wild ride of learning what a little cart can do and we trust that we are a light in every space we enter.
We love serving employees in office, weddings, birthdays – anywhere there’s people there should be delish coffee and we provide that! Super fun, super excellent and a great addition to any event.
How’d you meet your business partner?
Eeeep! What a fun question! We met at a small 49 student secondary missionary school in the hills of Montana attending the School of Biblical Studies (YWAM). Skye was already there & had gotten word there was another student who just arrived from Texas (yeehaw)! She went to the dorm and met Nate – he explained he is from Texas and upon further investigation we realized that we were only 6 minutes from each other here in DFW! We continued through our school seeking the Lord and reading the Word (went through the whole Bible 5x in 9 months)! and ended up driving back down to Texas together. We came back and worked, had some bumps of adjustment, and got married two years later! About to celebrate 3 years of marriage, 2 years of business and have an adorable kiddo who is 1 and half.
Any advice for managing a team?
We don’t necessarily have a whole “team” but we do have people who come throw down on the cart from time to time and we believe the industry standard is just above minimum wage (on a good day), sometimes tough hours and can be overall a less then satisfactory environment. We didn’t want that. We want everyone who comes to work for us, throw down with us, and helps support our vision to feel taken care of financially, spiritually, emotionally and supported on their own journey in life. We have the ability to do that with our cart and even if that only supports a small number of people or is their coffee money – we do it. We love people, and they are the reason that we have the chance to serve more, reach more and expand our business. We won’t ever forget that no matter what we do with our business.
