We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Nathan Brandt a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Nathan , appreciate you joining us today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
Our mission at Chasing Mice Media is to provide high quality music videos, promotional content, photography, etc. to musicians and business. The key reason I founded the company was because I saw a need fr videography myself as a musician. When I was in high school, I got fairly deep into producing music myself, and there wasn’t’t really anyone else in my area that was producing videos for musicians, so I thought, why not give it a shot myself? Now that I have had the chance to dive into the scene myself, I’ve found that there are also very few videographers doing high quality work at an affordable cost. My hope is that I, and my business, can help provide these services to artists at a rate that won’t hurt them financially.

Nathan , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I got into this industry initially as an internship through high school. The internship was for a local digital arts agency that focused heavily on video, primarily educational and commercial content. On the side, I was also creating music fr fun, and when I wanted to expand to doing music videos myself, I found that there was a local need for videographers, and photographers, especially ones that were affordable. As I’ve gotten deeper into it, I’ve found that quality of content, and storytelling are also hard to come by on a state level in Colorado.
Affordability is a huge component that isn’t covered when it comes to video production. It’s a service that takes a lot of time, and can take a lot of resources at its most basic level, but finding ways to be able to still pay myself, and occasionally a team, while also not charging artists an arm and a leg, has been a fun challenge to work with. As time goes on, we are looking to work with higher caliber artists, and businesses though that way we can also leave space for newcomers in the industry.

What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy I have found for growing and expanding my clientele has been through in person interactions, whether that be through going to concerts, or going to local chamber of commerce events.

How did you build your audience on social media?
I don’t have a huge social media audience, but I definitely have a dedicated one. The best way I’ve found to grow that has been through in person interactions. The primary use for our social media is to capture those who are or might be interested in working together, and giving them a place to see what projects we’ve been a part of lately.
