Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Nathan Bingle. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Nathan , thanks for joining us today. Risking taking is a huge part of most people’s story but too often society overlooks those risks and only focuses on where you are today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – it could be a big risk or a small one – but walk us through the backstory.
I was a chef for 15 years but started feeling the pull to explore another career so I decided to pursue photography. So at age 40, right before the pandemic and right after our second child was born, I took a leap and never looked back.
I needed to have more time with my children and I needed another outlet for creativity. I needed a new challenge. I’m so glad that I stepped out. This is my 3rd year of full-time photography and 2 of those years are 6 figure years.
Nathan , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I just told you a bit about how I changed my career. I am a wedding and high-volume school and sports photographer. While I was a chef for 15 years those early years were not great. I had bouts of drug addiction and homelessness. A lot of my friends can’t believe it when I tell them that I was the guy on the curd holding the “please give me money” sign. That was over 10 years ago now. I got so fed up with my addiction that I enrolled in a year-long program to get help. The program was faith-based and I was glad about that. I needed something to believe in. While I was in that program I gave my life to God and I’ve never been the same. The whole thing is really crazy. I’ve helped a lot of people turn their lives around just by telling them about Jesus. It’s a large part of my story.
Have you ever had to pivot?
I shared this earlier. I’m hoping it’s enough because I don’t like writing.. lol
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I’ve stayed focused no matter what. It’s almost unhealthy though. I can be laser-focused and not engage with the world around me. I am learning to compartmentalize my day. It’s not easy for me. One big thing is just turning off the phone in the evenings. As a business owner it’s hard to not be totally consumed with everything. I have been in a building season and am getting to the point of hiring out work and contracting others to do the work.
