We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Nathaly Rosa. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Nathaly below.
Nathaly, appreciate you joining us today. Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? What’s the story behind how you came up with the name of your brand?
That’s actually a funny story, I kept trying to come up with a name for my business and I had about a hundred name ideas written down and I kept asking my loved ones “what do you think about this?” and “is this better than this one?” and everyone had different opinions and ideas which only confused me more so in the end I just chose one randomly to try it out for a while and everyone gave me compliments on it so I kept it. After a while, I thought about changing it but everyone told me to keep the name I chose which is Photos Of Nat, so that’s the story of how the name came to be. And ever since I never changed it.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Hello, my name is Nathaly Rosa. A few important facts about me: I am 25 years old, I’m a professional photographer, I was born and raised (for part of my childhood) in Honduras. Then in 2009, when I was 12 years old I moved to Miami with my family permanently. I struggled a lot growing up because the transition from my country to the U.S, specially as a kid, was a big change. I suddenly had to learn a whole new language I knew nothing about, adjust to a completely different lifestyle and routine, and leave behind my family and friends. It was quite a lot to grasp at such a young age but little by little I adjusted and living here became my new normal. A few fun facts about me: I am an extrovert, my favorite color is blue, I love traveling, I am a foodie, and I love animals and outdoor activities.
My photography journey all started when I was given a camera as a gift. I picked it up and started taking photos while traveling or on vacation and fell in love with it. At first I begun as a landscape photographer and then slowly transitioned into portrait photography as I learned more and more about photography. Overtime, I realized what I enjoyed was photographing people. I started asking friends and family if I could take photos of them to practice and learn how to actually use a camera by learning all the settings and tools within the camera and what they all did and meant. I am 100% self-taught, I learned everything I know through reading books, watching endless videos and tutorials on everything photography related and most importantly – practice, practice, practice. Then as time went by, not only me but also people around me started noticing I was improving and actually had an eye for photography so they encouraged me to open social media accounts and share my work. Then next thing I knew I was receiving messages from people inquiring to pay me to take their photos, that’s when I realized not only do I enjoy what I do but I can also profit from what I’ve learned and it wont even feel like work because I love what I do. And from there the rest is history!
I provide any service related to portrait photography – headshots, portrait sessions, weddings, engagements, family, new born, events, I even provide portfolio building services for bloggers and/or upcoming models or individuals looking to build a creative portfolio.
I believe every creator has something that sets them apart from one another, everyone has their own unique vision, style, and way of doing things so all of us creators are unique in our ways. However, if I have to mention something that sets me apart from others is my passion and dedication to my craft and my clients. Every individual I work with can expect an overall great experience working with me – I always try to make my clients feel comfortable, try to meet their needs creatively, and try to fulfill their ideas and vision to the best of my ability. Happy clients = happy me!
What I’m the most proud of? I would say my progress, the progress I’ve made since I first started almost 6 years ago makes me feel accomplished and proud of myself and what I’ve done. Not only did I teach myself everything I know about photography but I never gave up on myself and my goal of getting to where I am today. I worked hard to get my skills and my business to where it is today and I can give myself all the credit for that.
One thing I would love potential clients to know about me and my business is that anyone who has any creative idea no matter how crazy or odd it may sound, they can feel free to come to me and trust that I will bring their vision to life! I love creating and there’s nothing more fulfilling than having someone come to me with an idea and/or vision and making their vision come true!
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
There’s many rewarding aspects in this line of work, however, I would say for me the most rewarding aspect of being a creator is being able to think of an idea or a concept and bring it to life. Every creator/artist has their own vision, their own style, their own way of doing things and I think that’s one of the most beautiful things about art. Everyone is different, everyone has different ideas and visions, which makes them unique in their own way… that’s how we end up surrounded by so much beautiful art and creations. I love seeing everyone’s perspective and point of view through their art, and that’s one of the reasons why I put so much love and passion into what I do because my art, my creations, are what represent me and my brand.
How did you build your audience on social media?
Building an audience on social media is not easy, believe it or not there’s a plethora of work that goes into organically growing an audience of people who truly support you and are interested in your work. I would say what helped me the most to grow my audience is staying consistent with my work, I worked very hard to get my work to where it is today and people saw that little by little. Even when I knew my work wasn’t the best, I remained consistent and continued to share my work but also continued to work on improving my skills everyday so I could be proud of the work I was putting out there.
My advice to anyone trying to get started online and trying to grow their social media audience is to have consistency. If you are consistent with your work and consistent with how often you share content, you will see growth overtime. Consistency and dedication are fundamental things in order to grow. Another thing I would say is be patient, growth doesn’t happen overnight, so set realistic goals for yourself and remember Rome wasn’t built in a day.
Also, another important thing is choosing a niche, if you want to become a content creator whether that be blogging, sharing something you’re passionate about, sharing any sort of art, or even selling something – you have to choose a niche. A niche is what defines you, you have to choose one thing you want to focus on and do that. For example, I do portrait photography, so people would be confused if they were looking for a portrait photographer and came across my platform and saw me sharing food photography or landscape photography because that’s not what I claim to specialize in.
And lastly, the most important thing is – don’t give up! Don’t give up on yourself or your dreams, if what you want is to grow a business and share your art or whatever it is you’re passionate about, keep at it! Someone, somewhere is going to support you and understand your vision.
