Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Nathalie Hernandez. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Nathalie, thanks for joining us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
After I made it on “The Voice”. I was 15. It wasn’t just my parents or my friends telling me I could sing, it was professionals in the industry and thousands of people watching me on TV that made me realize I had something special. At the same time, I was deep into songwriting. It was empowering and it came naturally to me.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m a singer/songwriter from Dunedin, Florida. My mom is from England and my dad is from Peru. I mention that because my parents are a big influence on who I am and what I listen to, but I truly listen to a little bit of every genre. Right now I’m in school to become a certified Music Therapist so that’s been really eye opening and rewarding. And I also gig every weekend at restaurants and bars, just me playing guitar and singing but it’s always fun trying to read the room and play something everyone can enjoy.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Someone telling me they feel my music. I want my lyrics to be easy to understand that it can emotionally resonate with someone who doesn’t know me. I’ve always been an upfront writer because what’s the point if I can’t be honest about what I’m feeling?
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My goal is for my songs to be the comfort or the sadness or love – whatever feeling you need in that moment – I want my music to be the bridge that helps you get there.
