We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Nath Milburn. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Nath below.
Nath, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
A lot of what I do now was learned by watching others and figuring things out on my own. Growing up in Kentucky when internet was still becoming what it is today, we didn’t have a lot of access to what an animator or filmmaker was. We had very limited resources or access to similar artists. The internet opened our world up to others trying to learn the same processes. People online would learn from each other, share tips and tricks, and watch films, both animated and live action. We’d try to see how the professionals would do it, and try our own stuff. Was a lot of trial and error.
After high school, I went to SCAD in Savannah, GA where I studied motion media and animation. I had a lot of photography and film friends. Animation and film go hand and hand, a lot of similar tactics, just different lingo. Overtime I would develop my own style, find my niche, and experiment until I found what works for me. I still experiment a lot, and try to make projects where I can learn something new, try something new. No matter if it’s a good or bad experience, as long as you learn something, it’s worth it.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
