We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Nate Eberle. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Nate below.
Alright, Nate thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
The craft I do can only be learned through trial and error. There is no fast track to be good. It took years of dedication to find the right combination of materials to make amazing wood pendants and pins. If I knew what I know now I still would feel inadequate because I am constantly improving and changing how I do things. No matter how you flip it, creating something takes time and lots of patience. The only thing that stands in my way is myself. Once I let go of control and let the process guide me things just start to fall in place much easier.

Nate, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Hello everyone my name is Nate Eberle and my artist name is EP. Short for Elevated Pins, Pendants, & Pinecones.
People always ask me what is the significance of EP? For many decades my grandpa ran a farm and loved making wood crafts, he called his business Eberle’s Produce. I wanted to honor that legacy and took the first letters EP.
I specialize in making wood jewelry. I take natural materials such as wood, pinecones, and gemstones and then create something magical from them. I’ve been perfecting this process since 2018. I fell in love with the craft coming out of college when I discovered the wide world of laser engraving. I was instantly hooked and I knew I had to buy one. That summer I saved up enough money and I bought my own laser. As soon as I had this piece of equipment, my crafting skills went through the roof. My head was always swimming with ideas, it was honestly overwhelming. My first couple years I spent designing and creating pins. They were pretty rudimentary at first but I soon found out there was so much more to it that could be improved. I was pushing the boundary of what is even possible to make with wood. My goal was to create a design with tons of detail in as small of a space as the medium allowed without losing the integrity of the material. As my skills progressed pins were no longer scratching that itch for creation and I transitioned to pendants. It was a whole new world to navigate. I wanted my pendants to be sophisticated and elegant. It was during this time that I went through some pretty serious health issues but I pushed on and continued my journey. I was fascinated with mandalas, in essence they are micro universes, the land of Nirvana. I had always thought of my work as mini universes, so it was a natural fit. As soon as I started making mandala pendants I blasted off and have yet to look back. Each pendant I make is one of a kind and will never be duplicated. It’s been a very exciting time to finally see results from the years of tinkering and persistence to perfect a craft that is not conventional in the art scene. We are booking art shows and getting into the music festival circuit. Catch us at a show – we would love to meet you and talk about art!

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
As I have been getting deeper and deeper into the art scene I have noticed people wanting to be creative but not knowing how. My goal as an artist has been to inspire imagination in others and give them tools to go on their endeavor as a creative. I love seeing that spark when people get inspired by my work. By using a combination of technology and human touch, the possibilities are endless.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding part for me is seeing my work go to its forever home. Knowing it will bring that person joy makes me happy. Also having people start to recognize your work is a pretty neat feeling.
