We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Nate Beavers. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Nate below.
Nate , appreciate you joining us today. Let’s start with a story that highlights an important way in which your brand diverges from the industry standard.
I have an appointment only shop in the Heights. I have another artist named Sedelah that works with me as well. We keep the tattoo experience free from interruptions to give the best experience possible to the clients. No distractions and a very chill vibe.
Nate , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I have been tattooing for almost 30 years throughout the United States, Europe and parts of Asia. I am experienced in many different styles of tattooing, anything from Traditional to photo realism and black and grey portraits. I was the first to create a hybrid tattoo combing realism with traditional imagery.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
One of the best sources for new clients has been Instagram. I usually post my newest works on there and it is linked to my website as well. Reels are still very popular and it’s easy to customize with effects, music, voice overs and more.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
The greatest lesson I had to unlearn was the unwritten “rules” of tattooing. The ways of the traditional tattooer had been beaten into my head from day one and it was very difficult to take that plunge outside the box. Today there are a great number of artists creating styles involving colors and line values that were formerly shunned upon. A tattoo doesn’t always have to have a bold line to be a well sone tattoo. As long as it is solid, bright, and well executed. The tattooer should know the limits and what will hold for longevity. Thinking outside the box is key to developing something unique and original to artist that produces it.
