Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Natasha Williams. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Natasha, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
Writing wasn’t something I really learned, it was something that was creatively apart of me. I wrote journals and poetry growing up. It was a therapeutic hobby for me. I simply perfected my craft with a deeper interest as I grew older. I could’ve probably invested more time into that as I was growing up if I actually took it more seriously as a career path back then such as more writing classes, more research of the career path of an author and possibly actually going to college for creative writing to enhance my literature skills. I think it’s important to first of all have a passion for writing; loving what you do and what you put into what you write. I also feel like a broad understanding of literature is needed. One genre is cool if that’s what you’re well versed in but incorporating a broad knowledge of many different aspects of writing and genres will help you gain more of an audience to appeal to every set of eyes while also still presenting the same content you originally came up with. I believe a lack of mentorship and guidance were obstacles for me, but like anything in my life I never really allowed it to be an excuse as to why I couldn’t attain my what feels like, destined career.
Natasha, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
So, I am an Author, Poet and all around creative. I got into the writing and literature industry based off of pure passion. I love expressing myself through my pen and also allowing others to relate to me through my depth in words. I do a bit of spoken word, I’ve written 3 books thus far and I’ve constructed a children’s book for publication for another author along with publication of 2 of my own books. In writing my own books I bring forth intricate story telling in one of my novels, lessons learned and depth in my memoir and also heartfelt experience in my poetry book. Having a mind that is broad but intricate allows me to express myself through literature in ways people have never heard or read before. I feel like I may appeal to the unspoken words of everyone in this world because I am not afraid to be straightforward with my thoughts, creativity and even the experiences that have molded the direction in which I may think. I am very proud of all of the content I have ever released as it is a reflection of the growth of my mind, my heart and my spirituality. In a world that is mislead and full of flaws we try to hide, it’s important to me write as humbly and as down to earth as possible making myself relatable to just about anyone.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
As I wrote my most recent book which appears on all platforms, Push Forward: Savage by Experience, I literally experienced more life than I ever thought I would see in the prime of my life. I’m also an advocate for mental health and being that i’ve dealt with my own experiences in mental illnesses, I took the time to write and express my emotions, my battles and what got me through those times of my life. I did that to become a pillar that people of all ages, backgrounds and struggles could relate to and learn from. A lot of times in this world we isolate our situations as if no one else has ever endured it wondering how will we make it. And I wanted to be the one to tell people what I went through and how they can too survive some of those struggles while becoming their highest selves. I’m not perfection or by far flawless but I never gave up and I still don’t because i’ve learned as this life goes on everything about it builds us and eventually we learn to recognize the blessings in it.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding part of being the creative and artist that I am is being able to be myself while I inspire others. I’ve always prayed for a career path I could love while also helping others. And although I have yet to reach the peak of my career, when I make it where I have set my goals to be I will be able to look back and remember how much of impact I made as I grew to flourish as much as I will. Being a blessing by giving the energy I was blessed with will always be a reward to me.
