We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Natasha Robey. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Natasha below.
Natasha, appreciate you joining us today. Do you have a hero? What have you learned from them?
I will make this plural, my HEROS are definitely God first, then my parents. My mother is a REAL MOTHER! There were times when I really wanted to completely give up and she would stand me back up and send me on! For example, when I launched my first ever event, literally 3 people showed up. I went all out, I got a building, vendors, 3 other estheticians, a massage therapist and everything! I was so discouraged! I remember telling my mom “I guess this isn’t the field for me!”. She was like “Keep going! The people are coming! Hardly anyone showed up to Tyler Perry’s first play , now look at him!”. She was right! Every event I’ve had after that, it completely sold out! And my Dad! He’s my first business coach! He spoke business ownership over me consistently as a child! Growing up people would ask me what did I want to be and I always replied “a business owner” , because that was instilled in my brain by my dad! At the age of 12 I had my first job working for my dad’s company (Robey Heating and Air). He really showed me the ropes of how to manage a business and be a boss at a really young age! It all started when one specific day he came in my room and said “let me show you how to write a check to an employee, because you will have people working for you one day.” So he let me write multiple checks for his employees (in my kid handwriting haha). I will forever respect my dad for exposing me to greatness.
Natasha, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Natasha L. Robey. I am the founder of Yebor Luxe. Yebor meaning Robey spelled backwards and Luxe meaning luxury. Yebor Luxe is a luxury spa located in Atlanta. I specialize in hyperpigmentation ,acne, massage, and post-op lymphatic drainage. I have been in and around the skincare industry for years! I started selling skincare (Avon) in high school because my skin was terrible, I had cystic acne. I was really just trying to find answers for myself. After some time and college, I decided to really give this field a push and go to aesthetics school (THE Atlanta Institute of Aesthetics). I worked my craft during school to my fullest potential. After I graduated I went right into business, and now here I am. I truly believe that one thing that sets me apart is throughout my journey, I’ve always stayed true to myself and God. I have no problem letting the world know that my business is built on a kingdom foundation. God have it to me so I’m giving it back to him!
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
To be honest I took the old school approach, with a sprinkle of the new school! I did a lot of guerrilla marketing! So that really put the word out there. I wanted a certain demographic of clientele, so I felt that g-marketing would be the best route to go in order to grab exactly who I wanted.
Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
Absolutely! There is a book that was given to me while I was in school! It’s called “The Little Black Book of Success”, this book is tailored for black women in leadership positions. That book has really opened up my mind and verbiage pertaining to leading others. I’ve learned a lot of reinforcement tactics to make sure that whoever I’m leading, that they’re experience is meaningful. I’ve definitely realized that you need a TEAM in business. If you don’t know how to lead effectively, it will stunt the growth of your business. This is why I always refer back to this book to keep me on the right path.
