We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Natasha Muniz. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Natasha below.
Natasha, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s jump back to the first dollar you earned as a creative? What can you share with us about how it happened?
When I think back, my first dollar earned as a creative was in high school. It wasn’t much and it was short lived but when i was in high school i got my hands on some fabric puff paint and tried ton start a clothing line called “Closet Wear.” I was still trying to find myself and dealing with the feelings i had towards women while still trying to fit into the “norm” of society at that time. I named it closet wear because many people i knew and even myself back then were in the “so called Closet” , scared to come out because of what people may think or how people may treat us, I designed a couple of shirts and head bands but soon got wrapped up in high school shenanigans and took on other hobbies.
Natasha, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Hey Family, I am Natasha “Titi” Muniz. I am a self taught visual artist and an Art Techer with Baltimore City Public Schools. I have always loved art and believe i got it from my dad. He used to draw all the time when i was growing up. I came to Baltimore permanently about 6 years ago. I took a risk and quit my job to open up an art studio/shop along with Cocoahippie nail bar. I offer sip and paints, art classes, a clothing line and custom painting and apparel. Shortly after opening up the studio i started working for a major arts integration non profit here in Baltimore. Over the past 6 years i have been a teaching artist and site coordinator for over 6 different schools in Baltimore City. I provide a multisensory and creative approach to learning that helps students better understand and retain information. I also expose them to culture and art skills that they can take with them on their journey of life. I am most proud of how much art has allowed me to grow and connect to any community i step into. I have had art work in places such as Cafe Latta Da (fells point) and Red Emmas (mount Vernon). I currently have 2 art pieces featured in the “Pa Mi Gente” Exhibit located at Motorhouse in Baltimore. MD. The opening reception in 10/19/2023 and the closing reception and Artist Talk is December 5th 2023 ( time TBD). I recently started a clothing brand named Seeds Of Society. At Seeds Of Society, our mission is to celebrate and uplift diverse cultures through fashion while actively combating racism and prejudice. We believe in the power of clothing as a means to express unity, diversity, and acceptance. Our designs reflect the rich tapestry of cultures from around the world, promoting inclusivity and understanding. With every garment we create, we sow the seeds of positive change and a more tolerant society.
We’d love to hear your thoughts on NFTs. (Note: this is for education/entertainment purposes only, readers should not construe this as advice)
I’m still getting familiar with NFTs but i think they are cool! NFTs have created new economic opportunities for us artists and creators, it allows us to monetize our work directly.
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
I believe society can create affordable and accessible workspaces, studios, and galleries for artists or convert underutilized spaces into creative hubs and artist residencies. Also i believe society should ensure artists are paid fair wages for our work, and support initiatives that promote fair compensation in the creative industry.
