We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Natasha Monique Shivers. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Natasha Monique below.
Alright, Natasha Monique thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
In 2018, the national pageant was supposed to happen that October in Panama City Beach, FL. I spent months working on marketing and preparing the area for it’s first national pageant. It was several tv, radio and newspaper interviews getting the excitement going.
That same weekend Hurricane Michael hit the area as a Cat 5 hurricane devastating the people who watched their city crumble. I was a part of the residence of the area and we lost our home and vehicles during that storm. We were displaced for several months and living in a hotel in Alabama but we still managed to have the pageant that year in Atlanta the week before Christmas. I was so filled with emotions to see so many of the ladies reach out to me to assist my family and the people in my community with resources and still attend the pageant that year. It showed that not even a Cat 5 hurricane could keep us away from having the event!

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I got into the pageant and beauty industry back in 2007. Before starting I was in an in-between place of not knowing what I wanted to do in life and scared to start anything new. At the time I was a wife, mom, daughter, daughter in law and I felt like I didn’t have an identity. One day, I was in the bookstore and saw a magazine that talked about a pageant designed for plus-size women. I went online and did more research and decided by that evening that this would be my next move. After competing in that pageant, I placed in the top 5 and I was immediately bitten by the pageant bug. I went on to compete at three other pageants and won those national titles. The most significant in my heart was the title I won at the American Beauties Plus Pageant. I went on to be a Lifetime Queen, staff member, and Executive National Director. In 2016, after the passing of my dear friend and founder of Royal Productions Angela B. Howell, I became the CEO and renamed the organization Royal Productions and Events by NM.
Here at Royal Productions and Events by NM, we produce an array of traditional and special interest pageants. We have two traditional pageants one for women sizes 0 to 10 (American Beauties National Pageant) and one for women sizes 12 and up (American Beauties Plus Pageant). We have a pageant designed for the women who are a part of any sorority or Order of Eastern Stars (National Sorority Pageant), we have a pageant designed for women who are a part of all branches of the military, active or retired (America’s Select Veteran Pageant), we have a pageant designed for certified teachers (America’s Elite Educator Pageant), we have a pageant designed for women who have already won a national title in any of our systems and they can return to compete for the highest overall title, “Complete Elite” in the (Royal Productions Prevailing Queens Pageant), we have a pageant designed for our “growing queens” for babies and girls ages 0-17 in the (Majestic Majesty Pageant) and last but not least we have our international virtual pageant – that was developed years before the pandemic (Classic Beauties International Pageant). Each pageant has a different set of areas of competition.
I know that our pageant enterprise is what has truly set us apart and we see an ongoing trend of other pageant systems that attempt to mimic our current setup, but it is only one Royal Productions and Events by NM. My producer (Danielle Cone Yancey) and the national directors plan all year to make sure that pageant week is memorable for everyone who attends. I am most proud of the way we encourage our state contestants to be involved with community service and how we require our national winners to continue to stay engaged with their platforms and volunteerism throughout their reign.
Royal Productions and Events by NM is a well-oiled machine, we have been producing and involved with pageant planning in some form since 2005. We truly do not take it lightly when a woman chooses us to “pageant” with because we know it’s so many choices. But we have been around for almost 20 years, and we have no intentions of stopping any time soon!
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being in this industry to speaking to women who are already active in their platforms and communities and them telling me, ” It’s always been a dream of mine to be in a pageant.” Royal Productions and Events by NM has a pageant for every woman, no matter her age, where she lives or her size. We have a pageant for you!
