We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Natasha Krohn. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Natasha below.
Natasha, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. The first dollar you earn in a new endeavor is always special. We’d love to hear about how you got your first client that wasn’t a friend or family.
After working on my friends family photos she pushed me to start my business. I took it as a, what can it hurt moment, as I had a full time job and it wasn’t imperative for me to make a living off of my hobby. I put a post on our local FB page for holiday photos. I was bombarded by interest in the sessions and found myself fully booked on my days off.
It was overwhelming to say the least , as I half jokingly did this to see what would happen. Taking the first client was fun and there was some nerves. I have experience with modeling as I used to do it , but taking on posing families who I didn’t know was new to me. I didn’t make much off my first sessions but it helped me grow in confidence.
Natasha, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Natasha , I’m a single mom to twin daughters , a San Diego Native and lover of photographic images. As a child I started photography at about 9 years old. My uncle was a wedding and portrait photographer who taught me how to use a dark room and how to capture light. I’ve collected antique photographs for many years and have always loved the permanence of prints. Photographs make memories tangible and I want to provide last quality images for people who otherwise cannot afford luxury photographs.
I price myself very reasonable and offer discounts for military and veterans. I work with budgets to ensure that families can have those memories they deserve captured.
I do this as a passion for the art and what it provides to the client.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My goal is to provide high quality tangible memories to families , couples , individuals and businesses who wouldn’t have the means to afford typical rates that are on the market.
Have you ever had to pivot?
I took on a lot of weddings in 2023 , it burnt me out. I had bad panic attacks with the long hours and the weeks of editing into the morning hours. I had to take a step back and reflect on myself and what was healthy for me. I had to take into account my daughters well being and emotional needs. So I decided that weddings were not for me , I altered my offerings and restructured my packages. Making money is great but your health and mental well being are more important. Figuring out what worked best for me is going to ensure I give my all to the clients I do take on.
