We recently connected with Natasha Kanevski and have shared our conversation below.
Natasha, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
The mission of my last project, BE BRAVE Art Show, I put together with the curator Dasha Krasota, is to present to the American public young, touching artworks created by contemporary Ukrainian artists during the ongoing war to demonstrate the spirit of the Ukrainian people in their battle for independence. Our primary purpose is to talk to Americans using visual language about what this means and how it feels to be brave during the war.
“Being brave is our brand; we will spread our courage to the world.
This is what it means to be us. To be Ukrainians.” – from the address of the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky.
The theme, BE BRAVE, was created as a message of hope
to the Ukrainian resistance, which remains stoically brave in Russia’s murderous attacks;
to all of us who are in grief and experiencing shame witnessing this devastating war in the 21st century;
to all of us watching as truth and freedom are under attack by Russia;
to those who cannot look away;
to those who cannot give up, who feel we must act;
and then “life will conquer death, and light will conquer darkness. “(Zelensky’s words on the cover of TIME magazine.)
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I am an award-winning expressionist artist. I work in that sweet spot between painting and sculpture.
Despite the pandemic, my artworks were recently exhibited in 19 Art Shows, including Solo and Duo Exhibits.
Since the war in Ukraine started, I organized and curated Benefit Art Shows for Ukraine, which raised $32,000.
I am a founder of the benefit Ukraine BE BRAVE Art Show that was on display at:
ArtUs Co Art Gallery, Austin, TX,
The Ballroom at Tanglewood, Houston, where the Consul General of Ukraine invited us.
ISF Black-Tie Gala Fundraiser scheduled for November 17th, 2022.
We are planning to apply to different art spaces to show our exhibition.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Art can convey feelings and ideas directly to people’s souls. It connects people to an artist and themselves as a mirror. It can reveal our essence, tenderness, purity, and completeness, the fact that we are infinitely beautiful in our fragility and mortality. The most rewarding aspect of being an artist or curator is to see this connection happening.
Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
Dasha Krasota and I met at a couple of parties and became connected through our kids. But I only got to know her better when she participated in the Benefit Ukraine Art Shows I had organized since the war in Ukraine started. When I decided to put together the BE BRAVE Art Show, I realized that Dasha’s involvement is crucial to the success of this project because she is a Ukrainian art critic, curator, and artist, broadly knowledgeable about Ukrainian contemporary art.
